Login account

This section describes how to use the command line to log on, log off, and create user accounts, if necessary.

Ask the system administrator or the technical support staff of the installation system for the user name and password.

Super User

The root user, also known as a superuser, is a special user. When you log on as Superuser, you have the necessary permissions to perform all of the system administration tasks. Typically, a system administrator is the only user who is authorized to log on as Superuser. If you are not a system administrator, you cannot log on as Superuser to perform day-to-day administrative tasks.

Root Login

However, the first time you log on to a new workstation, you must be logged on as root (root is the user name of the superuser). This is because no user accounts have been created. After you create an account for another user, you should log off Superuser and log back in as any other user. ---http://www.bianceng.cn

When you log on, you will see the logon prompt:

Trusted System limits

The system administrator may have set up a list of permissions for the terminal so that users who log on to a specific terminal can be restricted. In this case, you can only log on to a terminal that is authorized to access. The system administrator can also set the account for a period of time that can be logged on during the day, so that users cannot log on at a time other than the authorization time. The system administrator should notify the user of any restrictions on the account.

Logging in is a secure way to access the system. Log in by typing the username and personal password.

If you already have a user account, type the user name at the login: prompt, and press Enter.

For example:

Leslie Enter

If you do not have a user account, ask your system administrator to create one, or follow the instructions in "Owner's Guide". Before obtaining a user account, you can log in as Superuser.

To log in as Superuser, at the login: prompt, type:

Root Enter

If you are logged in with your own username, or if you set a password for root, you must enter the correct password at the Password: prompt. Type the password and press Enter.

The password does not appear on the screen.

The copyright notice appears first on the screen, but the time is short; then a message asks the console type. Type Y and press Enter.

If you are logged in with your own user name, the following statement line appears:

TERM = (HP) $

Super User prompt

If you are logged in as Superuser, the following statement line appears:

Value of TERM has been set to "HP". Warning:you ARE Superuser!! #

Remember to get your own user account (ask your system administrator or see "Owner's Guide").

You are now logged on to the system.

At this point, you can use hundreds of commands to perform a variety of tasks. Unfortunately, you may not be familiar with these commands. But as long as perseverance, you can learn a lot of basic commands.
