With the rapid development of the communication era, mobile phones have become a necessity for our lives. How can we play well with our mobile phones? What kind of mobile phone is more suitable for us? Recently, like several other industrial groups, the LiMo Foundation aims to build a standardized platform for built-in Linux mobile phones.

Currently, LiMo's main competitors include the Linux Phone standard Forum (Linux Phone Standards Forum; or Lips Forum), which focuses on creating shared open specifications.

By default, LiMo members create a shared open platform that allows them to build exclusive applications. Lips Forum released the first set of specifications in last December.

Another major competitor is the Open Handset Alliance, a leader by Google ). However, this alliance was only available in last November and has yet to exert any influence.

The LiMo Foundation said on the 4th that the Linux mobile platform will be released in March. Before the launch of the platform, the LiMo Foundation has released application programming interface (API) for developers ).

Morgan Gillis, executive director of LiMo, said at a visit to ZDNet. co. uk last Thursday: what we are doing at this stage is to launch this platform for the entire industry. Gillis said that this set of APIs can be obtained from now on, with the intention of giving developers the opportunity to view the Internal Platform and develop their own plans so that the LiMo platform can be regarded as a marketing pipeline.

Gillis pointed out that the technology included in the first version of the platform has been used in mobile phones produced by six founding members of LiMo. The six founding members are Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic, Samsung) and Vodafone ).

He said: the technology has been fully verified in the market in all major fields of the platform.

Asked if Lips Forum was the first to release the new technology in last December, and whether LiMo thought it was a joke, Gillis said that platform release is more significant than generating specifications. He said: Their approach is to provide a software platform and hand over the mobile phone to consumers. LiMo provides a set of technologies that can be directly deployed on mobile phones. It also embraces developers and allows developers to develop applications for those mobile phones.

In addition to founding members, important LiMo Foundation members include LG, McAfee, ARM, Ericsson, Huawei, Broadcom, NXP, and Trolltech. Although anyone can develop applications for the LiMo platform, if mobile phone manufacturers want to sell mobile phones using the platform, they must first join the foundation.
