So, or carry forward the "budget, save every 1MB memory" spirit, to give our love machine to reduce burden, let Windows Vista in our love machine run more smoothly bar!

Pop-up windows and shutdown optimization

1. Speed up Window Popup

Windows Vista uses animation to open a window, which affects the speed at which the window is opened, and the way to improve it is to turn the animation effect off.

Open Registry Editor and locate the Hkey_current_usercontrol paneldesktop

Window Metrics Branch, find the MinAnimate key value in the right window, and change its value from 1 to 0 to turn off the animation display.

2. Reduce shutdown wait Time

When Windows Vista performs a shutdown command, the service that is still running on the computer is closed, and if a program does not stop running within the system default time, the system enforces the stop operation. And before we shut down the computer, we're ready to quit, and it's a waste of time waiting here.

Open Registry Editor, locate the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control" branch, and locate the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" key value in the right window. Change the default value from 20000 to 1000 or lower.

Tip: WaitToKillServiceTimeout is to give a buffer of time to end the service, so that these executing programs have enough time to write back the data in the cache before the system closes. If you do not have enough buffer time, the data will be lost, so we recommend that you develop a good habit of saving documents at any time.

Memory optimization

To say that Windows XP desktop feels gorgeous, it's not too much to describe Windows Vista in a stunning way, but the beauty behind it is always at the expense of more memory. Even if the 512MB of memory may also be a lack of system memory or slow the situation, it is only to spend "silver" add memory? In fact, what we need to do is to turn off some of the features that are not commonly used in the system and use the memory on the "blade".

1. Cancel "Automatic Updates"

"Automatic Updates" is an online upgrade feature introduced by Microsoft in order to facilitate the user to upgrade the system when it introduces system upgrade patch or system security patch, if use this function, not only occupy network traffic, but also occupy memory. Turning off the Automatic Updates feature saves nearly 1.5MB of memory.

What to do: Right-click "Computer", select "Properties", and then click the "Automatic Updates" tab in the pop-up "System Properties" window.

Then select the "Turn off Automatic Updates" Item and click "OK" to turn off the "Automatic Updates" feature.

2. Cancel "System Restore"

System Restore is not very useful since the beginning of the Windows Me era, and it is recommended to turn it off.

What to do: Close the method and turn off System Restore and Automatic Updates, first right click "Computer", select "Properties", and then click on the System Restore tab in the pop-up System Properties window to "System Restore" can be turned off by removing the hook in front of the Turn off System Restore on all drives.

The freed memory is around 1MB.

3. Turn off unwanted effects in "visual effects"

While maintaining the gorgeous Windows Vista interface, we need to turn off some of these unwanted effects to reduce memory footprint.

What to do: Right-click "Computer→properties", select the "Advanced" tab in the "System Properties" window, click the "Settings" button in the "Performance" Item, and select " Visual effects "Custom" option, then only tick "show shadows under mouse pointer", "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" and " Use the visual styles on Windows and buttons three items (as shown in the figure).

This saves up to 3MB of memory space.

Turn off the extra service

After each startup of Windows Vista, some of the corresponding services will also run silently in the background. Windows Vista automatically opens up to more than 50 services, although each service consumes less memory, but the cumulative amount is a lot of value. For individual users, many services are useless, running them will needlessly occupy memory, it is a good choice to deactivate them.

How to: Log in as an administrator, enter the "services.msc" command in the Run dialog box, enter the service window, which lists a lot of service names and status information, double-click the service to shut down, click "Startup type" in the window behind the triangle, Then select "Disabled" in the pop-up command to close. The following are part of Windows Vista Auto-open services that users can turn off on their own.
