I used Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 update 3. I searched for it and installed the tetex-latex software package:

This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.4.5)

Latex is hashed (/usr/bin/latex)
$ Rpm-qf/usr/bin/latex
