ExFat

Both Windows 8 and Mac support ExFat.

NTFS is only applicable to Windows, mac not supported, and installing plugins is inconvenient.

There are tutorials on the web saying that the new Mac system may be configured to support NTFS, but my system cannot be configured.

HFS, Mac is available, but Windows doesn't.

FAT mac and Windows are supported, but only 4G is supported for a single file, and support is not good for 1T of removable hard drives.

My Computer is Mac Aire, HDD configuration is 128G SSD. has been used for a year, the hard disk is almost full, usually mobile phone camera photos are no place to put, need to consider buying a mobile hard disk back as backup. Originally chose to buy 128G HDD configuration, consider my usage habits, basically do not save movies and so on, so usually hard disk capacity only used very little. For the memories of the photos, of course, is to preserve, but these are basically just for preservation, the opportunity to see again is very small. So decided to choose 128G hard disk, when the hard disk is almost full, buy a person to move the hard drive back as a dump backup. Now is the time to do it.

Originally just intended to buy a 320G or so hard drive is enough, because according to my use, the basic 320G is enough for 10 years, a mobile hard disk can be used for 10 years is also very good. But after a round of online selection, found that 1T hard disk with 320G cost-effective more than a lot, 320G about 300 or so, 1T of 450 or so, and another important factor is the 320G of the mobile hard disk is a lot of old products, estimated that many are inventory. Finally, I chose to buy a 1T mobile HDD.

When you first insert Windows, you can correctly identify and read and write files, then insert your Mac, and find that you can read and write, and be happy. But it never occurred to me that when I plugged into Windows again, I found that Windows didn't recognize it. Later consulted colleagues, only to find that the original mobile hard disk is formatted as HFS format, Windows is not recognized. So my colleague helped me to format the hard disk into NTFS under Linux, and read and write files successfully, under Windows also succeeded, and inserted colleague's Mac, also can recognize, finally think the problem solved. But the problem is always so unexpected, Mac can only read NTFS, can not write. See the hard disk under the Mac information, found that the file system is read-write, but the coupon is read-only, so the file is not written. Then on the internet also found some methods, are to look at the hard disk uuid, and then configure the/etc/fstab file. Unfortunately, these methods do not apply to my system, a Disktuil info can not see the UUID, and secondly/etc/fstab no longer. In this case, I can only try to install the third-party tool NTFS for Mac, unfortunately the official website downloads down the software and cannot be installed.

The next day, I have no longer to toss, the intention is to format the NTFS bar, Mac want to write files on the mobile hard disk, the choice to put files on the hard disk, and then in Windows to copy files to the mobile hard disk. When I was going to reformat my hard drive, I found a exfat file format that was optional in addition to NTFS. So the heart inside a hot, exFat, is not the expansion of the FAT32, will not solve the FAT32 deficiencies? So he couldn't wait to search and found support. The heart is really a surging, quickly format the hard disk into exFAT, and then with 120 points of excitement into the Mac, see if you can read and write files. Oh, my God, it's really possible, it's not a fake. These two days troubled me finally solved the problem, there is a kind of God to save my feelings. Then, everything went well.

Really toss, but the problem is also happy to solve! Thank the colleague, great God!
