The Web server's WYSIWYG Web page editor is embedded in the Web publishing system, which emphasizes the convenience of content changes and the rapidity of content updates. AOL's web Editor has ceased to exist over time, but Aolserver survived because of the advent of TCL scripting language and its support for dynamic Web pages.

At the outset, users may not be able to fully and correctly install and set up a "soft" (Domain-based) virtual server. Aolserver's documentation is very complete and detailed, but slightly cumbersome. It includes all aspects of installation, configuration, and detailed instructions for TCL APIs. However, Aolserver does not support soft virtual servers based on HTTP 1.1.

Users can manage aolserver remotely using a tclsh-like module, which runs on the system's specified port. Once this module is run, it is easy to connect by telnet, manage Aolserver, or perform TCL commands using the monitoring module.

In many test environments, aolserver performance is not satisfactory. There are a number of errors in the WebStone environment Test Aolserver, and a significant number of customers cannot connect to the Aolserver server.
