Make Crystal special effect word with Photoshop

On a cold winter day, a snow in the dusty sky. is doing 3D font effects of my whim, to do a 3D crystal word effects.

Everything is hard at the beginning

Start Photoshop to create a new RGB white document with 500x200 pixels. Enter "Crystal Love" (Wendingte rough song, size 25, black, such as Figure 1), convert layer, complete the first step. Think about it. 3D Word effect is thickness, so you should try to make the font thicker, how to make it thicker? According to experience, the commonly used 3D effects built-in filters have relief effects, lighting effects. But the 3D effect of the two filters is attached to the background, so that its 3D meaning greatly compromised, so the inventive. We're going to use "motion blur" below.

Perform "motion blur" with a selection angle of 45 (pixels) and a distance of 45 (pixels). At this time the font is ambiguous and mixed with a group, there is no sense of hierarchy (see Figure 2). But the edges of the crystal were clear and sharp, and we didn't achieve the goal. Photoshop has "brush strokes" that are dedicated to edge processing, but are not suitable for making crystal edges. Here we perform "Find the Edge", the crystal word has been vaguely presented (Figure 3), can not help but a little complacent ... Set the gradient mode to "color deepen", quickly pull out the radial transparent rainbow gradient, in front of us appear a colorful color. Look at the font but not as we would like, the image overlap, no crystal texture (as shown in Figure 4).

After careful analysis, the reason: Photoshop 5.0 version, the input font will be built on a separate layer, so that "find the edge" on the "Transparent background" on, resulting in the image has a sense of overlap, resulting in a lack of texture. This is also because the "find edge" is used to identify areas with significant transitions in the image and to emphasize edges, and to outline the edges of the image with dark lines on a white background, so after "motion blur" you must merge the background layer, produce a white background, and then "find the edge." The crystal Word is late, the edge sharp Li clear, rich level, the space feeling is strong. At this point the direct pull gradient obviously not, after the test only use "color deepening" gradient mixed mode effect is still passable, but no crystal texture. With the "color" gradient blending mode texture is slightly better, but the color is light. Consider: the "color" mode is to use the luminosity (brightness) of the background and the hue and saturation of the blend color, create the result color, the white background of the font can only be dark luminosity (low brightness), the effect of the inevitable color of light, and white is not conducive to foil the crystal of the sense of transparency; is to reverse the image so that the font becomes bright (high brightness ), and the background turns black.

Cancel the previous gradient, perform "inverse", when the font brightness is not high, available "levels" adjustment, "input levels" for 0, 0.9 and 100. Pull out the gradient, crystal clear the word flashed in front of your eyes (Figure 5)! In fact, "clear" Dare to say, crystal not necessarily. By the right, add some glitter. Set foreground color to golden yellow, use "brush tool", choose "flash shape brush" everywhere "flash"! If you want to see more clearly, or if you build a larger document, increase the value of the parameter; how, flash small, will not use "free transformation"? Every flash has to be built new layers? Oh, wow! You're not mistaken! Then press the ALT key to move the copy, the final effect is shown in Figure 6.
