Warning

Do not run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter in an antivirus program, firewall software, backup software, or disk utility, or in a system program that is included with Windows. This can result in data loss or security implications.

Troubleshoot running Program compatibility

1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle and click "Search".

(If you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, and then click Search.) )

2. Enter "Run Program" in the Search box.

3. Click or click "Run a program written for previous versions of Windows", and then click or click Next.

4. Select the program you want to repair.

Or

If you do not see the program in the list, select not listed.

5. Click or click Next, and then follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.

Tips

You can also run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter from the desktop. Long press or right-click the program icon or shortcut on your desktop, and then click or click Compatibility Troubleshooter.

The Program Compatibility troubleshooter resolves issues that cannot be detected or resolved through the program Compatibility Assistant .

If the troubleshooter does not resolve the problem, you can try to change the compatibility settings manually.

To manually change the compatibility settings

These steps do not apply to programs that are part of Windows (such as Paint or Windows Media Player) or to applications that are downloaded from the Windows application store.

1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle and click "Search".

2. In the search box, enter the name of the program, long press (or right-click) search results, and then click or click "Open file location."

3. Long press (or right-click) program icon, click or click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.

5. If you want to apply the program's settings to all accounts on your computer, click or click Change settings for all users. The system may require you to provide an administrator password or confirm your choice.

6. When you are finished, click or click OK.

If changing the compatibility settings does not resolve the issue, try the following.

Visit the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Center online to determine if your program is compatible with Windows 8.1 or to find new programs.

Go to the computer or software manufacturer's Web site to view information about how to make your program compatible with Windows 8.1.

Go to the Microsoft Community Web site. In this forum, you can ask questions or share information with other people who are interested in the same topic.
