Make Win2000 slim

For me, there is no longer much heartache than I spent too much hard disk space when installing Win2000, because I still have a lot to install! I have gradually accumulated some tips to slim Win2000 in my applications over time for my friends who are in the hot water.
First, release redundant virtual cache
We know that the virtual cache is used to hide the pagefile file in the root directory. as the page size, sys is set to 1.5 times the physical memory by default, which is a luxury for general users. If you do not run software that consumes a large amount of memory such as 3dmax, you can save some memory. You can customize the virtual cache based on your actual running conditions. The virtual cache settings range from 2 MB to 1.5 times of physical memory. We recommend that you do not use this trick if the physical memory is smaller than 64 MB.
The setting method is as follows: Open "Control Panel", select "system", and select "advanced"> "performance options". You can see the current setting, you can also set your virtual page. This saves at least 382 MB of hard disk space.
Second, streamline system-driven Program Package
When a user has a PNP plug-in or a new device, Win2000 first checks the driver in the \ winnt \ driver cache \ i386 directory. whether there is a corresponding device driver in the cab compression file. This device-driven cache feature allows users to avoid frequent insertion of Win2000 to install discs. If you have almost no hardware replacement, you can safely delete this document if all the hardware has been properly configured and runs stably for a period of time. This saves 50 MB of hard disk space.
Third, minimize the System File Cache area.
In the \ winnt \ system32 \ dllcache compressed directory, the core of the win2000 system is dynamically loaded into the file cache, it aims to maintain system-damaged files and recover incompatible documents that are covered. In general, it is not recommended to streamline the directory. To reduce the buffer size, run the sfc.exe/purgecache command in the dosprompt. The complete command line is as follows:
SFC [/scannow] [/scanonce] [/scanboot] [/cancel] [/enable] [/purgecache] [/cachesize = x] [/quiet]
The parameter meanings are as follows:
/Scannow immediately scans all protected system files.
/Scanonce scans all protected system files once.
/Scanboot scans all protected system files at each startup.
/Cancel scanning of all suspended protected system files.
/Quiet does not prompt the user to replace all the incorrect file versions.
/Enable Windows File Protection for normal operations
/Purgecache clears the File Cache and immediately scans all protected system files.
/Cachesize = x sets the File Cache size
Step 4: Clear the temporary file AREA OF THE SYSTEM
The hidden System directories \ Documents and Settings \ Administrator \ Local Settings \ Temp in the system directory are temporary directories and discarded documents left during software installation or running, clearing this directory (cannot be deleted) saves MB to MB. The correct method is to first Log On As administrator or a user with administrator permissions, then close all windows and close all user programs. Find and open the Documents and Settings folder in the system directory, go to the Administrator subdirectory, and open the folder option in the "Tools" menu ", in the "View" column, set to display all files and folders, and then "OK ". Then you can see the "localsettings" folder, open it, and then open the "Temp" folder. Do not worry about what is in it. Press "Ctrl + A" to select all, then press "Del" and then clear the recycle bin. Finally, return to "Folder Options" of "Tools" and restore "hidden files and folders are not displayed ".
Step 5: Clear the temporary file area of the user
In the \ winnt \ Temp Directory of the system directory, it is the temporary directory and discarded document left by the user during installation or running. After closing all windows and all user programs, open this folder, press Ctrl + A to select all, and then press del to clear the recycle bin.
