DNS is used whenever you use the Internet. Every time you send an email or surf the internet, you must rely on DNS. DNS is responsible for the ing between host names and interconnected network addresses, which is handled by computers. If the connection to the DNS server is delayed, or if the DNS server resolves an address too long, the access will be delayed. If domain name resolution can be accelerated in some way, the speed of surfing the Internet can be accelerated. The following describes a Acceleration Method: Using OpenDNS.

OpenDNS allows you to access the Internet by using Safer (more secure), Faster (Faster), and Smarter (Smarter ).

More secure means that OpenDNS can block some phishing websites and give warnings when you visit these websites. Faster means that the DNS query service provided by OpenDNS is faster, and high-speed caching and other technologies are used to improve the DNS query speed.

More intelligent means that when you enter an incorrect website, such as converting nba.com to nba. cmo, OpenDNS will detect this error and return the correct nbao.com IP address. In addition, you can set the Shortcut cut (abbreviated name), for example, set "mail" to "mail.yahoo.com ", after entering "mail" in the address bar, you will automatically access the address "mail.yahoo.com.

In addition, OpenDNS is more reliable, which ensures long-term effectiveness and does not prevent you from accessing the internet because the DNS server stops working. OpenDNS also uses a distributed network to set up servers around the world so that each visitor can perform DNS queries on the server closest to him.

OpenDNS Server distribution

OpenDNS is easy to use. Like other DNS servers, you only need to change the addresses of the two DNS servers connected to the network to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 of OpenDNS. The following describes the settings of the main operating systems.

I. Windows XP/2000/2003

Windows XP/2000/2003 are basically the same. If you are using Windows XP, select "Control Panel"> "network and Internet connection"> "network connection ", in the network connection window, right-click the network connection and select Properties ". Scroll down to the Internet protocol and select "properties ".

Select "Use the following DNS server address" at the bottom of the screen ". For the preferred DNS server, enter this address: 208.67.222.222. For the backup DNS server, enter this address: 208.67.220.220. Click "OK", as shown in.

Set the IP address of the Opendns server in Windows XP

Click "close ". Restart the computer so that the settings take effect.

You can use either of the following methods to check whether the verification takes effect:

1. Visit the Home Page

If the interface appears, the setting is successful.

Opendns setting successful page (click to see the big picture)

If the page appears, the setting is not successful.

No interface configured successfully

2. Use the nslookup command

After the DNS server is configured and corresponding records are added, as long as the IP address remains unchanged, we generally no longer need to maintain the DNS data files. However, before confirming that the domain name is properly interpreted, we 'd better test whether all the configurations are normal. Many people simply use the ping command to check it.

However, the Ping command is only A command to check network connectivity. Although the input parameter is A domain name, it will be queried through DNS, but it can only query records of the and CNAME types, it will only tell you whether the domain name exists, and other information will be owed. So if you need to troubleshoot DNS faults, you must be familiar with another more powerful tool nslookup.

This command can specify the query type, check the DNS record survival time, and specify the DNS server for explanation. For example, run nslookup it168.com. If an interface is displayed, the setting is successful.

Ii. Windows Vista Workstation

If you are using Windows Vista, select "Control Panel"> "network and Internet"> "network and sharing center ". Click "view status" on the right of the screen. The "local connection status" Screen appears. Click "properties ". In the TCP/IP dialog box, add the following DNS Server IP address, as shown in.

Vista DNS settings page

Note: follow the same settings as OpenDNS in XP/2000/2003.

Restart the computer so that the settings take effect. Repeat the test above.

Iii. Mac OS X Workstation

Open the TCP/IP menu of the Network option of the control panel, and add it in the DNS server section.

Set DNS on Mac OS X Workstation

Save the settings. Restart the computer.

Then access the http://welcome.opendns.com/To see if it was successful.

Iv. Unix and Linux workstation settings

If you are using a Linux workstation, the modification method will be different. In RHEL 4 or 5, first add two lines to the network configuration file:/etc/resolv. conf.

Modify the network configuration file

This file is a DNS domain name resolution configuration file. Its format is very simple. Each line starts with a keyword, followed by configuration parameters. Resolv. conf has four keywords:

Nameserver
Domain
Search
Sortlist

Nameserver indicates the IP address of the DNShtml "target = _ blank> server. There can be multiple nameserver rows, each with an I P address. The following nameserver is queried only when the first nameserver does not respond.

Domain declares the host domain name. Many programs use it, such as the mail system. DNS queries are also required for hosts without domain names. If no domain name exists, the host name will be used and all content before the first vertex (.) will be deleted.

Multiple parameters of search indicate the domain name query order. When you want to query hosts without domain names, the hosts will be searched separately in the domain declared by search. Domain and search cannot coexist. If both exist, the domain and search will be used later.

Sortlist allows specific sorting of the obtained domain name results. Its parameters are network/mask pairs, which can be arranged in any order.

Red Hat does not provide the default/e t c/r e s o l v. c o n f file. Its content is dynamically created based on the options provided during installation. The most important is the nameserver keyword. If nameserver is not specified, the DNS server cannot be found. Other keywords are optional. Unlike windows computers, you do not need to restart the network service. to restart the network service, run the following command:

Service network restart

You can use either of the following methods to check whether the verification takes effect:

Access the http://welcome.opendns.com/home page in Linux, if the interface appears, then set in Linux successfully.

Opendns settings are successfully set on the Linux interface (click to see the big picture)

Run nslooku.
