1.1.1 Managing Windows Server Core server shared folders
Windows Server Core does not have a graphical interface, using commands to manage its shared files, setting NTFS, and sharing permissions is more complex, and now describes a graphical management tool that remotely manages shared folders on a Windows Server Core server.
Example: Managing a Windows Server Core server shared folder
Use the Administration Tools on Fileserver to manage shared files on Profileserver that have the Windows Server core operating system installed.
Steps:
1. Log in to the Fileserver server as a domain administrator's user account
2. Click "Start" à "program" à "management tools" à "sharing and storage Management".
3. Click "Connect to Another computer", in the dialog box that appears, select "Another Computer", enter Profileserver, and click "OK".
4. Now that the management tool is connected to the Profileserver, click "Set Sharing".
5. In the Shared Folder Location dialog box, click "Browse".
6. In the Browse File dialog box that appears, under e$, create a folder "research drawings", select the folder, click "OK" and click "Next".
7. In the NTFS Permissions dialog box that appears, click Next.
8. In the Shared Protocols dialog box that appears, by default, "SMB" is selected, and the share name defaults to the folder name, click "Next".
9. In the SMB Settings dialog box, click "Advanced", set the user limit, and click "OK".
10. In the SMB Permissions dialog box that appears, click "Permissions", delete everyone's access rights, add "developer" can read and change the share permissions. Click "Next".
11. In DFS Namespace publishing, click "Next" to complete the sharing settings.
12. Select the shared folder you just created, click Properties, and under the Permissions tab of the Development Sheet Properties dialog box, you can set NTFS permissions and share permissions.
