As with Web sites, users can also manage FTP site servers in a variety of ways. For example, set the FTP site server's virtual directory access rights, set up anonymous access, create user accounts, and so on.

10.2.1 Set Write permissions for FTP virtual directories

In the FTP virtual root directory, write permissions must be set to publish information. For increased security, you can set this permission when you are ready to publish information to the server and eliminate permissions immediately after the publication is finished.

To set write permissions for an FTP virtual directory, follow these steps:

(1) Open the Internet Information Services Manager window and expand the server site.

(2) in the default FTP site, right-click Pbsdata, select Properties from the pop-up shortcut menu, and open the Pbsdata Properties dialog box, as shown in Figure 10-10.   Figure 10-10 The Pbsdata Properties dialog box (3) on the Virtual Directory tab, in the FTP Site Directory option group, enable the Write check box to add Write permissions.   (4) Click "OK" button to save the settings.    10.2.2 account for known FTP users if a user is not authorized to access an Internet host, they cannot log on to that host, so in order to ensure that FTP users can log on successfully, they should establish an account for them. The steps to establish an account for a known FTP user are as follows: (1) Open the Internet Information Services Manager window and expand the server node. Figure 10-11 The Security Account tab (2) disables the Allow Anonymous connections only check box, a message dialog box pops up indicating that the password may be transmitted over the network, and clicking the Yes button is available. (3) Click the Add button in the FTP Site Operators option group to open the Select User or Group dialog box. As shown in Figure 10-12.    Select one or more user names in the name list, and then click the Add button.
