A brief introduction of SMC

Prior to Solaris 9, there was virtually no complete management interface for the Sun Soalris operating system, and the only available was admintool. Admintool packages as a collection of software groups, making it easier to manage software. Admintool called the package command. The package commands and Admintool can be used alternately in the management of the software. For example, you can use Admintool to install a software, but use the PKGRM command to remove the software. You can also use the Pkgadd command to install the software and remove it using Admintool. Regardless of how the software is installed, Admintool will display all installed software on the system. The Solaris Management Console (Smc,solaris Management console), which started with Solaris 9, is much more powerful than Admintool. The SMC version in Solaris 10 is 2.1. The Solaris Management Console (Smc,solaris Management console) is a graphical user interface based "Umbrella application" that serves as a starting point for different management tools. SMC comes with a complete toolbox, and you can manage diskless clients, but only from the command line, not the graphical user interface. You can add or remove tools to the default toolbox, or create a new toolbox by using the SMC Toolbox editor to manage different sets of tools. The Solaris Management Console is a container based on GUI management tools, which are stored in a collection called the Toolbox. The specific functions of SMC are as follows:

Establish and maintain user accounts, user templates, groups, mailing lists, administrative roles, and permissions. Grant or deny user and administrative role permissions-controls whether a particular application is available to each user, and what tasks each user can perform.

Assigning permissions and roles to users;

Create implementation user policy;

Regular, periodic factual periodic work;

Monitor processes, restore processes, delete processes, suspend processes;

View the system log;

View the attached file system.

Configure and manage existing serial ports.

Create and view disk partitions.
