Serv-u is a widely used FTP server-side software that supports the Windows 9X/2000/XP operating system. It is simple to install, powerful, you can use the same IP to set multiple FTP servers, limit the permissions of the Logged-in user, the main directory and space size, support remote login management.
1. Install Serv-u
Serv-u installation is quite simple, you just double-click the download to the installation file file, follow the prompts to click the "NEXT" button to easily complete.
Note: When choosing an installation directory, it is best to choose to install it on a system-only disk, so as to avoid the need to reset your account when an exception occurs in the future.
2. Set Serv-u
Serv-u prompts the user step-by-step to set up the first time the wizard runs. Below, we explain separately:
"Your IP Address": If you are using ADSL, such as dial-up Internet access, has a dynamic IP or do not know the native IP, here please leave blank.
"Domain Name": This is the name of the FTP site, can be named randomly. For example, Myftp.
Anonymous account: Determines whether anonymous users are allowed to access the FTP site. Select the Yes option.
Anonymous home directory: Sets the location of the directory where anonymous users log on to the site. Enter "C:\FTP".
Locked in home directory: Assuming that the directory location of the anonymous user is set to "C:\Ftp\Guest" in the anonymous home directory, then after "Yes", when the anonymous user logs on to FTP, it is locked in the C:\Ftp\Guest directory and can only view the contents of the Guest directory. , you cannot go to the parent directory "FTP", and the directory appears as "\" in the FTP client software, and if it is not locked, it is fully displayed as "C:\Ftp\Guest". Select "Yes" here.
"Named account": decide whether to create an account with certain administrative privileges. Select "Yes" here.
"Account name": is a certain administrative rights of the account login name.
"Account password": Set the login password for the account.
Home directory: The same as the anonymous home directory, which is used to set the location of the directory where the admin account is logged in. Enter "C:\FTP".
"Locked In Home Directory": select "Yes".
"Administrator rights": used to set administrative permission levels for administrative accounts. Select "No permission" here.
Tip: These settings are not final, and you can modify them at any time in the Serv-u main interface.
3. Use the same IP to set up multiple FTP servers
If bandwidth allows, you can also use the same IP to easily set up multiple servers. In Serv-u, each FTP server in the domain under local server is called domain, and the FTP server we created above is a domain called "myftp". To set up multiple servers, you actually create multiple domains that have different ports.
Right-click Fields, select New domain, and in the wizard that appears, set the reference to "Myftp", except that you must not conflict with the port of the domain that you created or the port that is occupied by other system services on the port. If you fill in 22. The same operation, you can set up multiple FTP server.
4. Make your FTP more professional
When you login to some professional FTP station, will show some welcome information, such as display your IP, tell you how many people are using FTP, bandwidth is how much, etc. Actually oneself also can do, serv-u itself has this function. Here is how to add this information in your own intranet FTP.
