Three architectural patterns for Oracle RAC:

1. Configuring Cluster hardware

1.1 System Requirements

Requires at least two nodes

View the Compatibility List for AIX and RAC

1.1.1 Hardware

? IBM minicomputer – Two to run AIX 4.3.3 or 5L (requires 64-bit)

? At least 512MB RAM, 1G space for page change

1.1.2 Software

? When using IBM AIX 4.3.3:

o hacmp/es CRM 4.4.x

o database file only supports raw Logical volumes (raw Devices)

o Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 9i releases 1 (9.0.1) or 9i Release 2 (9.2.0)

? When using IBM AIX 5.1 (5L):

o Database Files raw Logical volumes (raw Devices) and parallel filesystem (GPFS):

o hacmp/es CRM 4.4.x (no HACMP required when using GPFS)

o GPFS 1.5

o IBM Patch PTF12 and IBM Patch IY34917 or IBM Patch PTF13

o Oracle Server Enterprise Edition 9i Release 2 (9.2.0)

1.1.3 Patch

Patch Considerations:

? Make sure that the patch versions are consistent across all nodes

? Do not easily install firmware-related patches

? Try to get the latest patch information

1.2 Setup Disk array

1.3 Installing cluster interconnection and public network hardware

This section must be configured to complete before the cluster is configured and is guaranteed to be available
