VMware is already familiar to users, VMware ESXi is also called (VMware vsphere Hypervisor), VMware ESXi is a streamlined and free version of VMware ESX, and the installation configuration is very convenient and simple, so it is favored by many users, As VMware's partner, we are here today to share with you the installation and setup of VMware ESXi 5.1 virtual machines.

First, VMware ESXi 5.1 detailed installation configuration note

Note Before installation:

Prior to installing VMware ESXi 5.1, it was also confirmed that the host was compliant with the minimum hardware configuration supported by VMware ESXi 5.1.

1. ESXi 5.1 Installs and runs only on servers with 64-bit x86 CPUs, requiring the host to have at least two cores, and requires nx/xd bits to be enabled for the CPU in the BIOS.

2, one or more gigabit or 10GB Ethernet controllers. ESXi requires at least 2GB of physical RAM. Provide at least 8GB of RAM to make full use of ESXi functionality and run virtual machines in a typical production environment.

3. To support 64-bit virtual machines, the x64 CPU must be capable of supporting hardware virtualization (Intel vt-x or AMD RVI). and the Intel Vt-x or AMD RVi will be turned on in the BIOS, as shown in Figure 1:

After confirming that the current hardware has met the most basic requirements, the next installation method for VMware ESXi 5.1 is described below, and VMware vsphere 5.1 supports booting ESXi hosts from the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).

1, you can use UEFI from the hard drive, CD-ROM drive or USB media boot system.

2. Using VMware Auto Deploy for network boot or provisioning requires legacy BIOS firmware and is not available for UEFI.

3. ESXi can boot from disks larger than 2 TB, where the disk provides system firmware, and the firmware on any add-in card that you want to use supports this disk.

Second, VMware ESXi 5.1 installation Method steps

In this installation, the main use of the interactive installation method is to use the ESXi CD/DVD or USB flash drive to install the ESXi software on the SAS, SATA, SCSI hard drive or USB drive.

1, insert the ESXi installer CD/DVD into the Cd/dvd-rom drive, or connect the installer USB flash drive and restart the computer. Set the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM device or USB flash drive. After entering the Guide screen, click Install ESXi5.1. As shown in Figure 2

2, select Esxi-5.1.0-799733-standard Installer, the system into the boot and install ESXi. As shown in Figure 3

3, after entering the ESXi welcome interface, ESXi5.0 can support most of the hardware system, only a small part of the hardware is not supported. Press the "Enter" key to continue. As shown in Figure 4

4. In the User Licensing Agreement page, press the "F11" key to receive the license agreement, and then on the Select Disk page, select the drive on which you want to install ESXi, and then press Enter. As shown in Figure 5

5, select the keyboard type of the host. After installation, you can change the keyboard type in the direct console. As shown in Figure 6

6, enter the host's root password. You can leave your password blank, but to ensure security when booting the system for the first time, enter your password. After installation, you can change your password in the direct console, and then press F11 to start the installation. As shown in Figure 7

7, this figure is visible ESXi is in the installation. As shown in Figure 8

8, after installation, remove the installation CD, DVD or USB flash drive. Press ENTER to reboot the host, after the installation completes reboot, will enter the ESXi5.1 console, can make simple setup to the host. In the console window, see the server's information, such as the server's CPU, memory information, network IP information. If you want to access this host, you can enter an IP address in the browser. As soon as it is installed, the ESXi5.0 system is assigned to an IP address because of the DHCP service in the network. If there is no DHCP on the network, ESXi does not get an IP address. It is noteworthy that, in ESXi5.1, the IPV6 address was first supported. As shown in Figure 9
