Microsoft 64-bit Vista system first anti-virus test exposure error message

According to external reports, the first independent test of the anti-virus software product carried out by Microsoft's 64-bit Windows Vista operating system exposes many error reports.

Of the 20 products sent to the independent security certification organization Virus Bulletin for testing, 6 of them encountered an error when scanning a set of known clean files.

Trend Micro reported three antivirus products. All three products recognize Microsoft's development tools as spyware. Other products with incorrect reports are FortiClient, Ikarus Utilities, and VirusBuster of Hungary.

John Hawes, a technical consultant for Virus Bulletin, said that items added to known clean files are taken from the most popular list on the Free Download website. Therefore, this error detection is worrying.

He added that misreporting can cause as many interruptions as a virus infection. An incorrect warning usually causes the user to consider a legal file as a form of attack and thus delete the legal file. Deleting a legal file can also cause major damage.

Hawes blamed excessive reliance on heuristic Detection Technology for the cause of an error alert. He said antivirus software vendors must work hard to minimize error detection.

Some anti-virus software complained about the lack of access to the PatchGuard kernel Protection System and other security measures for the 64-bit version of Vista before the release. The anti-virus software industry also has differences on this issue.

Virus Bulletin admitted that the poor results of the 64-bit version of Vista testing showed that Microsoft had closed the operating system, making it difficult for other security companies to live.
