Mobile devices and SharePoint 2013-Part 3rd: Push notifications
Push Notifications
You can enable the push notification service on a SharePoint site to send device updates such as tiles or toast notifications to Windows Phone devices.
A notification contains events that occur on a Web site, such as when a user adds an entry to a list or updates an entry.
It does not replace the alarm alert function (email notification), is an additional feature.
SharePoint Server 2013 supports applications on mobile devices to receive notifications from a SharePoint site.
Mobile devices must be registered with a SharePoint site to receive such notifications. Once registered, you can write event-handling code to interact with the notification service of the Microsoft Push Service (MPNS) or other mobile device platforms. A message alert is sent from the server where the application resides to the registered mobile device application.
When the push notification feature is activated, a subscription store is created at the site level to hold information from registered to the SharePoint site to accept message reminders. The subscription store is a hidden list that cannot be directly seen by users or even administrators.
Limit 1: Each site can register 2000 devices for message push
Once you reach 2000, you cannot continue to register unless you have removed it, that is, the total cannot exceed 2000. You can erase a specified device that has not been updated for 30 days, or clean up the contents of the entire subscription store, all by preference. This article can help you: clear the push notification registration in the subscription store in SharePoint 2013.
Limit 2: Currently only Windows Phone is available
There are no push notifications for iOS devices at this time. Maybe some developers want to use Apple's " local and push notification Programming Guide " To implement an iOS version?
Push notification feature
Push notifications enable mobile device enrollment on a SharePoint site, and the push notification feature must be activated on the site. You can activate or deactivate push notifications in the Manage Sites feature in Site Settings.
The push notification feature has an ID of
41e1d4bf-b1a2-47f7-ab80-d5d6cbba3092
You can activate the feature with this ID, which is available in both SPF and SPS, and is not activated by default.
Scalability
There are a lot of places that need to be handwritten, such as the XML you need to build your toast notification message yourself, and don't know if you need it in the official version.
