Winowsxp desktop is on the system disk. When the system crashes and you need to reinstall the system, you must remember to back up important files on the desktop. If you accidentally forget to back up and reinstall the system, those important files are gone forever. In fact, we can put the desktop in another disk directory, such as the D disk, so that when we re-run the system, we don't have to back up the important files on the desktop, and we are not afraid that the desktop files will be lost due to reinstallation of the system. The procedure is as follows:
Step 2: Click Start> Run and enter Regedit to open the Registry Editor.
Step 2: Expand [HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders] in the registry, locate the topq key, and double-click to open it, change the value to the desktop path. For example, place the desktop in the "desktop" folder of the d disk and set the value to "D: \ Desktop" to close the registry editor.
Step 2: restart the computer.
In fact, you can change the default paths of many other systems under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders], as shown below:

This setting appears in the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folders. If both settings are configured, the system starts setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE before setting in user configuration.
The corresponding parameters under the User Shell Folders item can modify the location of some folders. For example, favorites specifies the location of favorites.
