Many of the default settings for Word 2003 are not for our use, so let's see how you can modify these defaults to make word easier to use.

Default Picture Wrapping method

The picture wrapping style that you insert or paste in Word defaults to "inline", in which case the picture cannot rotate or drag the shift, and inserting the picture often requires that the layout be adjusted to "around" and then processed. In fact, we can change the default settings to "around", how to do this: Select the "tools → options" menu command, select the "Edit" tab in the dialog box that appears, click the "Picture Insert/Paste as" Drop-down list, select the "Around" item, and then click the OK button

Precise adjustment of objects

As many people know, hold down the ALT key in Word to drag to fine-tune the selected object. In fact, as long as a few simple settings, even if you do not hold down the ALT key to drag directly can be accurate adjustment.

Select the drawing → drawing grid command on the Drawing toolbar (the default is under the Word window), uncheck the Snap objects to grid check box in the pop-up drawing grid interface or set both horizontal spacing and vertical spacing to 0.01 (Figure 1), and then click the Default button, and the At the prompt, do you want to change the default settings for gridlines? When you click the Yes button. You can then drag directly in Word to adjust the precision.

If you only need to make a direct drag adjustment in the current document instead of changing the default settings completely, do not click the default button when you modify it.

Farewell Drawing Canvas

The drawing canvas appears automatically each time you insert an AutoShape or text box in Word 2003. Although pressing the ESC key allows you to temporarily disappear the drawing canvas, but always feel too troublesome, in fact, we can cancel by selecting the "Tools → options" menu command, select the General tab in the dialog box that appears, uncheck the "Create drawing canvas automatically when inserting ' AutoShapes" check box, and then click OK button.

Default formatting for AutoShapes

The default inserted AutoShape is a 0.75-point black line, white padding, if you want to change the default formatting, you can set it by first drawing an AutoShape, then right-clicking, selecting Format AutoShape on the pop-up shortcut menu, and selecting the Color and Line tab in the dialog box that appears. In which you customize the line and fill color, and then click OK when you are finished setting up. Finally, right-click the AutoShape again, and select the "Set AutoShape default Effect" command.

To open a common input method at startup

Usually as soon as you open Word 2003 will automatically switch to the "Microsoft Pinyin Input Method", if you are not accustomed to this input method I am afraid will feel very troubled. Can you get word to automatically open our usual IME when it starts? It's not hard to do that.

Open Control Panel → Add or Remove Programs in turn, locate the Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 item from the list, and click the Change button. Select the "Add or Remove Features" single option in the Office 2003 installation window and click Next, and then click the "Advanced Customization for application" check box and then the next step, expand the list from among the Microsoft Office→office sharing function → Chinese optional user input method → Microsoft Pinyin Input Method 2003, click the "Microsoft Pinyin Input Method 2003" button before selecting "Do not Install" (as shown in Figure 2), click the "Update" button. After the installation is completed and then enter word is not the Microsoft Pinyin input method, but the Input method list in the first place in Chinese input. Finally, as long as the commonly used input method in the first place.

If you don't want Word to automatically open the Chinese input method at startup, there is another simpler way to use it. Select the tools → options menu command, select the Edit tab in the dialog box that appears, and uncheck the "input control is active" check box.

Display graphic dimensions by pixel

The graphics in Word are computed in centimeters, if you often need to convert a graphic in Word to a picture, you might prefer to use the pixel format to display the picture's size, and how to do it: Select the "tools → options" menu command and select the General tab in the dialog box that appears. Check the "Show pixel for HTML feature" checkbox to achieve this. If you uncheck the Use character units check box, you can also make the data that is displayed by character or row height into centimeters, such as the Settings window for the drawing grid.
