Step one: Test the current speed

Step two: Optimize your registry

When the Windows family is installed, the default is for Ethernet settings, and in the process of TCP/IP packet delivery, some of the hard work is done on subcontracting and grouping to fit the ISP. Although ADSL using the PPPoE protocol, with the characteristics of LAN, but not exactly the same as the LAN protocol, so there is room for optimization. We can modify the relevant parameters in the registry through the software so that the system is optimized for ADSL. The specific parameters are MAXMTU, Defaultrcvwindow, etc., this optimization can make ADSL adapt to ISP network parameters, maximize the efficiency of ADSL.

The MTU is the abbreviation for the English Maximum transmission unit, which means ' Maximum transmission units ', that is, the maximum number of bytes that can be transmitted at the time of the connection. We must find the maximum MTU that does not return fragment (fragmentation) information. In addition to the MTU of ADSL PPPoE is 1492, the MTU standard setting for the rest of the DSL is 1500.

MAXMTU is the largest TCP/IP transmission unit, in the TCP/IP protocol, the data to be transmitted into smaller groups for transmission, each group size of 576 bytes. The Windows default byte for 1500,ADSL uses a slightly smaller amount of PPPoE than this value, and there is a slight difference depending on the ISP's differences. Using default values can reduce transmission efficiency. The location of MAXMTU in the registry is Hkey_local_ Machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\s\nettrans\00yy, the key name is Maxmtu, where ' yy ' is the gateway to TCP/IP , depending on the settings, typically between 00 and 30. You can use the ping command to get the MTU value of your ISP. such as Ping www.yahoo.com-f-L 1500 sends data in the 1500 group (-L 1500) to www.yahoo.com (preferably your ISP's Web site) and checks to see if data fragmentation (-f) is found to be different from grouping, and if so, lower the grouping value. Finally, a matching maxmtu can be found. This value is the most important part of ADSL optimization.

Defaultrcvwindow is the size of the default transport unit buffer. The size of the value is related to the speed of the modem, preferably MSS (Maximum Segment size, maximum number of groupings, equal to Mxamtu minus 40 bytes of address information), Defaultrcvwindow in the registry location is Hkey_local_ MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\VXD\MSTCP, the key name is Defaultrcvwindow.


DefaultTTL is the lifetime of the TCP/IP grouping, which is discarded if the packet is transmitted over the Internet over the life of the group. Changing the DefaultTTL to a greater extent helps the information spread farther across the internet. The location of the DefaultTTL in the registry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\VXD\MSTCP, and the key name is DefaultTTL.

After modifying the above registry, restart the computer.
