The configuration of the search range is very useful for the search in the specified range as mentioned in the next article. Therefore, it is considered important and is an important basis in the search.

In general, search first configures the content source, then configures the range, and then customizes the rules on different ranges, so that Moss can crawl the network according to the rules, and finally obtain the content on schedule using the crawling plan, in this way, the moss search is complete, and at least the content is searched within the specified range. This process does not require any development.

The previous section describes how to configure crawling and try a simple search, including the content source configuration of crawling. We recommend that you take a look. The following describes how to configure the search range.

 

1. First open the Management Center of moss. Go to the shared service management website (my name is sharedservices1) through the moss management center ).

2. In the search section, find the Search Settings link and open it.

3. The configuration Search Settings page is divided into three parts: crawling settings, scope, and authoritative page. Locate the view range in the range and open it.

4. The view range page is displayed. Click Create range on the toolbar.

5. Open the new range page as follows:

The following two parts can be set: the title and description, and the target result page.

Title and Description: You need to define the title of a range, which will be used later when searching for a specified range.

Search result page: You can use the default search result page of the system, or add a part provided by moss to display search results on a custom Web Part Page, this page. Use the default value here.

6. After the input, the range is defined. After you click OK, the returned range page is displayed. The newly created range is displayed.

 

At this time, we can see that the Update Status column is null and there is a link to add a rule. This rule is not mentioned in this article, because the following two examples will show the actual application of the rule. One is to search for the content in the specified range of different lists, and the other is to search for the content in the specified folder. This article serves as the basis for these two examples.
