An operator is an object that receives a message sent by the SQL Server Agent that notifies an operator of an alert message by mail, paging, or network transfer, so that it knows what state the system is in or what event has occurred.
The execution steps for creating an operator are:
(1) Start SQL Server Enterprise Manager, log on to the specified server, click Management in sequence, and then "+" on the left of the SQL Server Agent (if the SQL Server Agent does not start, start).
(2) Right-click the operators icon, select the new Operator option in the pop-up menu, and open the new Operator Properties dialog box, as shown in Figure 17-6.
The meanings of each of these options are:
E-mail: operator's e-mail address; page e-mail: The operator's paging address, net send: the operator's network transfer address, which refers to the computer name on which the network information will arrive; Page on duty: Defines when an operator can receive information. (3) Select the Notifications tab page, as shown in Figure 17-7.
Notifications sent to this operator by: indicates in what way (mail, paging, network transmission) notifies the operator of the message;
Operator is available to receive notifications: Indicates that the operator can receive these messages.
