2.2.3 Install SQL Server 2000
Installing SQL Server 2000 is simpler and the process is similar to other Microsoft Windows products. We have installed SQL Server Standard Edition as an example, the installation process and instructions are as follows:
• Put SQL Server 2000 CD-ROM into the CD drive. If you have the Autorun feature, the installer splash screen will appear, or you can run the Autorun program directly on the CD. If the operating system is Windows 95, you need to select the i "Nstall SQL Server Prerequisites" option to install its missing corresponding software, protocols, and so on. Here we select "Install SQL Server Components", "Standard Edition", "Database server-standard Edition" option to install SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition database management software. The Welcome to the Install SQL Server 2000 dialog box appears next to the Computer dialog box that selects the software you want to install, as shown in Figure 2-1. The local Computer option indicates that the "remote Computer" is installed on a remote computer and that "Virtualcomputer" is installed on the virtual machine.
• Select the "local Computer" option, followed by the Select Installation Options dialog box shown in Figure 2-2.
If you select the Advanced options option, the Advanced Options dialog box appears with three options:
· Record unattended. ISS file: Create an initialization settings file for automatic installation;
· Registry Rebuild: Repair of a damaged installation;
· Maintain a virtual server for failover Clustering: maintenance of virtualized servers.
• The "Create A new instance of SQL Server" option is typically selected in Figure 2-2, followed by the Input User Information dialog box as shown in Figure 2-3. When you enter a user name or company name, a copyright agreement information interface appears. When you choose to accept the copyright agreement, the Enter Product Serial Number dialog box appears.
• Next appears as shown in Figure 2-4, the Select Installation Type Options dialog box. Select the "Server and Client Tools" option to install the server and client tools.
• The Set Instance Name dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-5. Select the Default option or customize an instance name.
