A person is responsible for one (or more) column, he can only be responsible for the column to modify, and other columns do not modify the permissions. But sometimes there will be multiple people to modify the same file at the same time, especially the homepage of the site, the first home. There will be many people have the right to modify, how to do? How can you tell which content is new and what is old in the file?

This is the check in and check out attributes in the DW. Use this feature, you can solve the above problems, so you can safely to maintain the site.

The so-called "Check out" is the current file to modify the permissions of their own, only to edit themselves. This file is read-only for others. "Check In" is the opposite of the check out operation, which is to give up control of file modification permissions so that others can modify the file. Let's take a look at their specific features and how they are used.

first, enable check in and check out features

1. Select the Site menu in the DW edit window and click the "Define Site" command to define the website you want to maintain, and the definition Site window will appear.

2. Select the site you want to define, click the "Edit" button, open a dialog box that allows you to set the properties of the site. Select the Check in/out option in the list on the left, and then you can set the appropriate setting on the right.

3. Check in and check out attributes can be enabled by selecting the checkbox preceding the Enable file check in and check out (Activate check in and check out of files).

4. Check out the file when you open the file for editing, if you select the checkbox "Check out files when Opening" (check out file before opening file).

5. Enter the name of the editor in the Check out Name text box. When you check out the file, the name here appears in the Site window, which tells other web maintainers who are now editing the file.

7. Clicking the Done button completes the activation of the check in and check out attributes.

Second, use check in and check out features

After the check in and check out features of the site are activated, we can perform check in and check out operations in the Site window.

In the Local Site window, select the file to check out, click the Check Out button, you can check out the file, at this point in the site window of the remote and local side of the file icon followed by a green "√", indicating that the file has been check out, The editor's ID is displayed in the check out by column. In the other maintainer's site window, you will see a red "√" indicating that the file has been edited and the same can be viewed to the editor's ID. Files that are check out can only be edited by the operator, and for other users, this file is read-only.

When the edit is complete, upload the file to the update, then select the file, click Check in button, you can unlock the file, the file icon appears after a gray lock-like identity. At this point the file is locked for the user and cannot be edited.

If you select the "Check out files when Opening" option when you activate the check in and check out features, DW automatically Check out this file when you need to edit the files within the site.

A dialog box appears when you perform check in or check out, which prompts you to check in or check out the other references in the file.

It is to be noted that if you are maintaining your site on a local computer, it is recommended that each maintainer should first get it down on the server to edit the common file to ensure that the file you are editing is the latest version to avoid editing the old file and overwriting the new file edited by others. If you are maintaining the site directly on the public server, after you edit and update the site, be sure to unlock the file check in, or else they will not be able to edit the files.
