Every time I use a microwave oven to eat something hot, I feel bored, and I can't do anything at all. Four students at the University of Pennsylvania recently converted a microwave oven named μwave to help us eliminate this boring wait.
After each set time, μwave automatically finds the same video from YouTube for you to view. Time Matching is very useful and won't make you feel half sorry. It doesn't matter what you find. It's just like a lot of people are watching the news.
As a work completed within 48 hours of the pennapps hacker competition, the principles of μwave are not complex. There are three components ,:
- An Arduino Board;
- A common microwave oven;
- A wi-fi tablet.
The Arduino version automatically reads the microwave heating time, connects to YouTube via Ethernet to search for videos with matching lengths, and then pushes them to the tablet for playing. In addition to automatic video playback, μwave can also automatically send tweet, so that data lovers can collect statistics on their microwave oven usage.
Mu wave won the first prize in the pennapps 2011 hacker competition. The concept of Automatically Searching content and pushing it back to the tablet is very interesting. It is not necessarily necessary to fix the tablet in the microwave oven as in the demonstration, and it can be pushed to the tablet on the tea table. In addition, it can be triggered by content other than the microwave oven, and video websites are not limited to YouTube.
