This is the "System Information" after Ubuntu 11.10 is installed on my computer ".

The video card driver has been installed during system installation. However, the default screen resolution is 1024x768.

In system Settings> display, only 800x600 and X are available.

There are multiple resolutions available in nvidia x server settings. The resolution I want to set is 1152x864.

Nvidia x Server SettingsAnd then restart the computer. Resolution always returns to 1024x768. The solution on the internet is poor.

After several hours of fighting, I finally found a solution.

Use "terminal", sudo gedit/etc/X11/Xorg. conf

Section "screen" section
Option "metamodes" "1152x864 + 0 + 0" is changed

Option "metamodes" "1152x864 @ 1152x864 + 0 + 0"

Save and restart.

In"System settings"-> "display"The 1152x864 items are added. You only need to select one based on your needs.
