MyEclipse supports Java EE technologies such as JAX-WS and EJB 3.0, which are available in the form of feature packs for WebSphere 6.1, but are not out of the box. This guide will guide you through the installation of WebSphere 6.1, feature packs, and updates. In this guide, you will:

vi. Application of WebSphere Update 6.1.0.x

This will be the first update that you apply to WebSphere Application server, which updates the server from version 6.1.0.0 to 6.1.0.x.

1. To apply this Pak file, download it and place it in the Maintenance folder for WebSphere Update installer, as this is the default location for update installer. In this case, because you installed Updater installer into the c:program Filesibmwebsphereupdateinstaller folder, the folder where the Pak files are placed is as follows.

2. Run the update Setup program by double-clicking the Update.exe file in the same folder or from the Start menu.

Important: If you install WebSphere Application server into the C:Program Files folder, because you modified permissions control on Windows 7 and Vista, we recommend that you right-click the update Installer the shortcut to the window and select Run as Administrator from the menu to ensure that the update does not fail because of a permissions issue.

3. Start update installer and click Next and you will be prompted to enter the installation folder for WebSphere Application server. By default, the update installer should find and display it, confirming that it is actually correct.

4. Click Next to install or uninstall the maintenance package, in which case accept the default and install immediately. Click Next to enter the folder that contains the Maintenance pack file (Pak file). You place them under the installation folder for update installer, which is displayed by default.

5. Change the directory, confirm and click Next,update Installer will display the update package that it found and prompt you to confirm/Select the update package to install. In this case, you should have only one update package.

6. Click Next, and the installer will verify the action you want to perform and prompt you to confirm. Click Next again to start the update process.

Note: Considering the size of the app update package, it may take up to 2-5 minutes on a faster machine and it may take 10 minutes or more on a slower machine to run.

7. When the update is complete, update installer will confirm that the process is complete.

Important: If the update process fails at any time, you can try running the update installer again, and it will try to recover the failed update. If the recovery fails, the server resource may be locked due to a pending server process or a running server. Make sure that the server is stopped, and we recommend that you restart the computer before you try to recover the update process to ensure that all open file handles are closed.
