MySQL installation complete cannot change password

with service mysqld stop
Mysqld_safe--skip-grant-tables &
Enter mysql-uroot-p return Enter
>use MySQL;
> Update user Set Password=password ("Newpass") whereuser= "root";
Change Password to Newpassord
> Flush Privileges; Update Permissions

Grant all on * * to username @ "%" identified by " password ";

Flush privileges;
> Quit quitting
Service mysqld Restart
Mysql-uroot-p New Password entry
