To standardize the naming rules for cloud computing platforms, let customers understand the naming support for virtual machines in the VMware virtualization architecture, and check the white papers and related materials as follows:
For VMware products, a virtual machine cannot contain non-ASCII characters (numbers and characters represented by computer language 128-154), but supports Chinese and supports ASCII characters (numbers and characters represented by computer language 32-127), as shown in Figure 1-1, where the virtual machine name can contain 80 Characters, you can confirm that the virtual machine name is very much selected.

And usually not only consider the product itself support, but also to maintain the architecture of other product compatibility, and the famous bucket law like
If a virtual machine needs to be backed up, and NetBackup has a clear limit on the name of the virtual machine, some characters are not allowed in the virtual machine display name when the virtual machine is included in the NetBackup policy. If the display name contains an error character, the backup fails.
For NetBackup, the following characters are allowed in the virtual machine display name:
ASCII characters in uppercase and lowercase
Digital
Period (.)
Hyphen (-)
Underline (_)
Plus (+)
Percent semicolon (%)
Space
In general, the virtual machine naming conventions submitted to customers meet the following conditions:
Virtual machine name supports maximum 80 characters
Virtual machine name supports 32-127ASCII code characters
The virtual machine name must be unique within the folder
The virtual machine name supports case insensitive
