Ncdu-Ncurses-Based Disk Utility

Several days ago, we discussed gt5 (a disk utility with a graphic front-end ). Next, we will continue to introduce this command series: du replacement command. Today we will discuss a ncurese-Based Disk utility that can be run remotely without a graphical environment. The command line tool we want to introduce is called ncdu.

Ncdu -- Ncurses-based du optional program

This command line tool is only a standard du Command Based on the curses version. It helps you quickly view the disk usage statistics of the system without installing the graphic environment.

Detection Environment

• Operating System-Ubuntu 13.04
• Shell-Bash 4.2.45
• Application-ncdu 1.9

Concise tutorial

Here are some examples of ncdu commands:

1. Default output

Run the following ncdu command. You will see that it scans the disk and then displays the space usage of each directory in descending order.

> Scan

> Output

You will see a disk usage table in the output. If you want to scan the entire file system, you can add the-x option when running the ncdu command.

2. Press I to obtain more information about the selected directory.

As you can see, the first item is selected by default. To learn more about the selected items, you can press I.

The following is an example:

As you can see, the directory, type, size, and actual occupied space are displayed. Return, and then press I.

3. Delete the directory on the ncdu Interface

Delete the directory in the ncdu interface. You only need to select the Directory and press d.

The following is an example:

As you can see, ncdu requests the user for confirmation. If you select yes, the directory will be deleted from the system.
