Netbook Security companion Kingsoft ultimate experience

With the increasing popularity of netbooks, more and more application software has released a version dedicated to netbooks. We have also compared and evaluated the performance of major anti-virus software on netbooks. I believe that users who use netbooks pay attention to security while demanding the running speed, after all, compared with traditional laptops and mainstream desktops, Netbooks are flexible and compact while losing some performance. Kingsoft recently released a fast version of anti-virus software for netbooks. I also tested this anti-virus product as soon as possible. I will share my personal experience with you.
I. Introduction to Kingsoft speed edition and test environment:

KingSoft Antivirus quick edition is a new-generation anti-virus software tailored for laptops and netbooks. Based on the fine-grained Optimization of system memory, CPU, and I/O devices, Alibaba Cloud has developed and reconstructed the underlying engine of the system for five years to make it run on a portable computer, improving the overall performance. At the same time, the "cloud security" Technology is fully used to query hundreds of millions of users online, effectively resisting the intrusion of popular viruses and Trojans.

This version of anti-virus software is published on Kingsoft drug overlord's blog. The product name is Kingsoft drug overlord's quick alpha2 preview version. Currently, this version is still in the testing stage. We can download it by visiting the address http://blog.duba.net/read.php/191.ht. (1)

To better test the performance of the anti-virus software on the netbook, I tested it on a relatively low-configuration netbook. This netbook is the EEEPC of Asus, with a CPU configuration of 900 MHz and 2 GB memory. It has installed Windows XP and installed the SP3 patch. (2)

The size of the drive C of the netbook is 4 GB. After the system is installed, the available space is 520 MB. (3)

Before installing Kingsoft speed antivirus software, I checked the task manager of the netbook system. The current number of processes is 21, the CPU usage is 5%, and the memory usage is 136 MB. (4)

On the other hand, the download of the Kingsoft fast edition installer has a total capacity of 7.54 MB, which is smaller than similar products, taking into account the small size of the netbook hard disk. (5)

After introducing the application environment and software version, we should enter the actual test stage. The author installed Kingsoft drug overlord quick edition released by Kingsoft.

Step 1: After the main program is run, the basic information is introduced. Click "Next" to continue. (6)

Step 2: Set the installation directory. We can see that Kingsoft drug overlord requires 50 MB of installation space. (7)

Step 3: It is worth mentioning that, although the installation program of Kingsoft Express version has a capacity of more than 7 MB, the program also integrates the firewall function of Kingsoft network security. You can choose to install it on your own. It is worth mentioning that the installed Kingsoft network security will enter the system as a separate program. (8)

TIPS:

After the installation is complete, we will find that Kingsoft drug overlord and Kingsoft network security are separated in the control panel. They are two independent programs. (9)

Step 4: copy the required files to the local hard disk. (10)

Step 5: complete the installation of KingSoft Antivirus quick edition, register basic components, register detection and removal and monitoring systems, and register and start related services. In this way, Kingsoft drug overlord will automatically reside in the system and start it. (11)

Step 6: After the installation is complete, the KingSoft Antivirus quick version will be automatically upgraded. The overall upgrade speed is still very fast. It takes less than one minute for me to upgrade my netbook to the latest virus database. (12) (13)

Step 7: After the installation is complete, we can see the Kingsoft drug overlord quick moderator interface. The interface of the software is fresh and simple, not as many additional features as traditional anti-virus software. In addition to the detection and removal functions, monitoring and defense, and virus database information, there is nothing else. This is more in line with the needs of the netbook, and the simplicity of program functions directly improves the system running speed. (14)

After learning about the installation and basic functions of Kingsoft speed edition, let's take a look at the usage of the system and space, as well as the scanning capability and scanning speed.

(1) system resource occupation:

After installing Kingsoft speed edition, we can find that the program has added several processes to the system, namely kstart, kswebshield, kxeserv, and kxeupsrv. Among them, the kxeserv process occupies a maximum of 18 MB of memory resources. This should be the Kingsoft speed version of the Monitoring Program, and the total memory usage of all processes is 26 MB. (15)

For other processes, after querying the kswebshield process, kxeserv acts as the firewall function, and kxeserv acts as the Kingsoft security protection process. It acts as a password to protect account security.

(2) space occupation:

Previously, I had a spare space of 520 MB on the C drive and 480 MB after the installation. This indicates that Kingsoft drug overlord requires 40 MB space, which is consistent with the 50 MB space mentioned in the installation instructions. (16)

(3) scanning speed:

By default, KingSoft Antivirus provides four scan modes. We can use different scan modes based on actual needs and system running conditions.

First, I tested the scanning of key areas (fast scanning and removal). The scanning speed of the local machine was very fast. The whole process took less than one minute, and it took only 58 seconds to scan 2842 files, in my experience, we should simply scan and kill the key directories of the system. (17)
