BOOTP protocol

(Bootstrap Protocol) is a TCP/IP-based Protocol that allows diskless sites to obtain IP addresses from a central server, assign a dynamic IP address to the diskless workstation in the LAN. You do not need to set a static IP address for each user. When using the BOOTP Protocol, it generally includes Bootstrap Protocol Server and Bootstrap Protocol Client.

Application: this protocol is mainly used in a LAN with a diskless workstation. The client obtains the IP address as follows: first, the BOOTP starts the code to start the client. At this time, the client does not have an IP address, broadcast the IP address 0.0.0.0 request to the network. Then, the server running the BOOTP protocol receives this request, finds the client based on the MAC address provided in the request, and sends a FOUND frame containing the IP address, Server IP address, gateway, and other information. Finally, the client downloads the boot image file from the dedicated TFTP Server Based on the FOUND frame and simulates it as a disk boot.

TFTP protocol

Note: Trivial File Transfer Protocol (simple File Transfer Protocol or fragmented File Transfer Protocol). The role of TFTP is roughly the same as that of FTP, which is used for File transmission, you can upload and download files between two computers on the network. The TFTP protocol can be viewed as a simplified version of the FTP protocol. The differences between the two are as follows: 1. the TFTP protocol does not need to authenticate client permissions, and FTP requires client authentication; 2. TFTP is generally used in LAN and remote UNIX computers, while common FTP is mostly used in the Internet.

Application: the TFTP Command is embedded in Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003. You can type the TFTP command in the "command prompt" window to transfer local computer files to a remote computer. To transfer an abc.txt file on the local computer to abc1.txt on the remote smilecomputer, type: tftp smile put abc.txt abc1.txt. For specific command usage methods, you can type: tftp/? In the "command prompt" Window /? You can see the corresponding prompt information.

DHCP protocol

Description: The full name is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). This Protocol can automatically assign IP addresses to each computer in the LAN and complete the TCP/IP Protocol Configuration for each computer, includes IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways, and DNS servers. In this way, the Administrator does not need to manually configure the TCP/IP protocol for each computer in a LAN, especially in a large LAN, and avoids repeated IP addresses.

Application: To enable DHCP in Windows, you only need to set the IP address to "automatically obtain the IP address. Take Windows XP as an example. Open the "local connection" attribute and double-click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" to open the Properties window. On the "General" tab, select "automatically obtain IP Address" and click "advanced" in the lower right corner ". In the "IP settings" tab of the window that appears, you can see "DHCP enabled "().
