Installing and using ADSL Modem is simple, but what should I do if I encounter such equipment faults? Question 1: How to enable the routing function of the ADSL Modem.
Phenomenon: to allow more than two computers to share the ADSL Access Line, enable the Modem routing function and enable Internet sharing between the two computers without any additional devices. How can I enable the ADSL Modem routing function?
Analysis and Solution: Generally, the ADSL Modem provided by the broadband service provider to the user for free does not enable its routing function. Pay attention to the following issues.
1) check whether the Modem supports routing.
Currently, ADSL Modem is fully supported. If you were using a product a few years ago, you would not be so lucky. Of course, there is no way. You can upgrade the firmware to add the routing function. You can go to the Modem manufacturer's website to query and download the latest update file.
2) do not know the management password.
To enable the routing function, you must enter the Modem management interface, which requires a password. Generally, this password is provided in the product manual. Sometimes the Modem password will be changed by the ISP in advance. The reason is very simple. You do not want to modify the configuration or enable the routing function at will. In this case, you have to call your ISP to ask.
After solving these two problems, you can start to enable the routing function of the ADSL Modem. The following uses Alcatel Home Plus511 as an example. Although different Modem routing configuration interfaces are different, their principles are similar.
1. Connect the ADSL line. If the DHCP function is enabled by default, you do not need to configure the local IP address. Otherwise, you need to configure the local IP address to the same network segment as the Modem. Enter the factory default IP address in the IE Address Bar, and enter the default management account and password in the pop-up logon dialog box to go to the main management page.
2. First look for options like "general settings" or "quick Settings". There are a lot of things to do here. First, select the connection protocol. Currently, ADSL uses the "virtual dialing" method to access the Internet, and it corresponds to PPPoE, as shown in 1.

3. The next important configuration item is "VPI/VCI" virtual path identifier/virtual channel identifier ). Generally, the VPI value cannot exceed 8, but the VCI value cannot exceed 35. If you are not clear, you can ask the local telecom or ISP supplier. The VPI/VCI setting of 2 is for reference only.

4. when entering the account and password step, because the ADSL Modem enables the routing function, it is equivalent to a gateway computer, which is used for dial-up connection, set your ADSL account and password in the Modem attribute.

Question 2: common error codes in ADSL dialing.
Symptom: After the ADSL line is connected, open the dialing Connection Program in the operating system and click "dial", but the connection fails, the Error "Error 617 The port or device is already disconnecting" message is displayed.
Analysis and Solution: the prompt message indicates that the device connected to the dial-up network has been disconnected. This may be because PPPoE dialing software is not fully and correctly installed; ISP Server faults; connection lines or ADSL Modem itself. In addition, there are some error messages, which are listed here for your reference.
1) Error 650.
This means that the remote computer does not respond and the connection is disconnected. This may be caused by an adsl isp Server failure, network card failure, or abnormal shutdown, resulting in a network protocol error.
The solution is to check whether the Modem signal lights are correctly synchronized and reinstall network components.
2) Error 797.
The connection device of the ADSL Modem is not found. This may be because the Modem is not powered on, the NIC and Modem connection lines are faulty, and the dial-up program is not bound to related protocols.
The solution is to check the power supply and connection lines, check whether the related protocols are installed in network properties, and check whether there is an exclamation point before the NIC name in "Device Manager.
3) Error 619.
It means that a connection cannot be established with the ISP Server. This may be due to adsl isp Server faults, ADSL telephone line faults, and other reasons.
The solution is to check whether the ADSL signal lamp can be correctly synchronized or consult with the ISP.

Question 3: Why is the dial-up failure when the computer is started and the Modem is powered on?
Symptom: Automatic dial-up is started after the computer is started. It is found that the power supply of the ADSL Modem is not enabled. At this time, turn on the Modem power, but cannot dial.
Analysis and Solution: simply restart the computer to solve this problem. At the same time, check the power of the ADSL Modem before you enable the computer. Of course, if you don't want to restart your computer, you can solve the problem by manually releasing the IP Address Configuration. In the "run" dialog box, enter the command "ipconfig/release". The IP configuration parameters originally bound to the NIC will be released. Then, enter the "ipconfig/renew" command, in this way, the system will automatically re-detect the NIC configuration parameters, and the dial will be normal.
