Network practice: Learn how to correctly configure Cisco switches

This document describes how to configure a Cisco switch in two ways, configures some ancillary services, and provides detailed configuration steps and configuration commands.

There are two methods to configure a Cisco switch:

1. Console: You can directly configure a Cisco switch.

2. Remote Logon (Telnet): Use the TELNET program to remotely configure a vswitch with an IP address already configured. Generally, this can be done only after the IP address of the vswitch is configured on the Console port. In addition to the above two methods, there are actually two methods:

1. WEB configuration method. This method can only be a common configuration for Cisco switches.

2. hardware-based applications and dedicated programs are rarely used.

Establish a Console to connect to the vswitch. Generally, the vswitch comes with a Console line. One end is connected to the Comsole port of the vswitch, and the other end is connected to the serial port of the computer. Open a Super Terminal and connect to the vswitch. The specific parameter settings are as follows to connect to the vswitch.

After a vswitch is connected, Initialization is required if it is the first time the vswitch is started. Generally, the name and password of the vswitch are set. Because the switch has been initialized, if you want to initialize the switch, you need to enter the Privileged EXEC mode.

Enter setup in the command prompt symbol to start the initialization operation. The Privileged EXEC mode is introduced just now. In this case, we need to talk about several modes of machine change. Different modes can execute different operation commands. First, we need to talk about two basic modes.

For the sake of security, CISCO divides an operation session into two different access levels: User EXEC level and Privileged EXEC level. You can only use commands at the EXEC level, and the Switch displays a Switch> prompt. You cannot configure a Cisco Switch. For example, in the user EXEC Status: AITG_FrontekCoreSW>.

The Switch # prompt is displayed on the Switch under the EXEC level with special privileges, and various configurations can be performed on the Switch. For example, in the Privileged EXEC state: enter en to enter the Privileged EXEC level, then enter the password to enter the Privileged EXEC level:

The prompt has changed. The user enters enable (or en) at the user EXEC level, then enters the password to enter the Privileged EXEC level, and then enters "?" at the switch prompt.
