Some time has passed since the TouchPad webOS 3.0 simulator Beta1 was released. In the past few weeks, HP has continuously improved the webOS 3.0 simulator and added many new features to the SDK. Recently, HP released webOS 3.0 SDK Beta5. Let's see what new features are available in the fifth edition.
First, let's take a look at a major update on Beta5: how to run the old Mojo program. Until now, HP does not want to admit that it is a mobile phone simulator. But in fact, this is indeed a simulator. As you can see, the running effect is a Pre-size window (320 × 480), and there is a virtual Pre-phone outside. The most important thing is the gesture area. Supports forward/backward/Meta keys.
According to the description of the Beta5 SDK, the "compatibility mode" of the Mojo program runs at a resolution of 320 × 480 by default. However, HP also gave developers a choice to enable the Mojo program to run in full screen mode. However, developers need to add a tag in the source code to allow them to run in full screen mode. However, the original virtual gesture area will no longer be displayed in full screen mode. This requires you to have additional navigation methods in the original program, rather than relying on the gesture area. However, we can't help but want to say that running only one 9.7x1024 window on a 768x320 display screen is too small. If hp can automatically scale up 320x480 programs to 640x960 like Apple, will it be better to provide a virtual gesture area with extra space.
However, Hewlett-Packard has made a lot of effort in developing TouchPad. It is estimated that they are confident that they will attract enough developers to develop applications, I don't really care about the running effect of the old program. In addition to the Mojo compatibility mode, Beta5 also provides some minor updates. If you compare it with the previous version, you will find the paste/copy selection tool and dialog window, multiple selection in Email, traffic conditions in the map, left-side list bar in the photo/video, all calendar programs in display mode are updated.
