If you are introverted and think you are smart enough, you can become a software developer. This is why I was engaged in the software industry. Moreover, I found that there are too many smart people in China, not just me. These people think that they are better at computers than people. What they do most often is to give me a problem and let me program it.

If you are a developer of a team and all of your team members are introverted smart people, what would you do? If one day you are promoted to a software project manager and your team members are introverted smart people, what can you do?

1.Be yourself 

1.1Nothing can replace your experience

Nothing can replace your experience, and these experiences can make you unique. Do not simply use scientific and theoretical tools, processes and methods, which are created by most people. This sentence may be the right one for most people. It must be wrong if it is the best one for most people. Find the ones that best suit you on your own.

Although I can share my personal experiences in "Software Project Manager new on the road" and give answers I think, I can also extract a lot of theories. But I can't do this. All I can do is write the cases that you may experience in the project and point out that the so-called theoretical tools and methods cannot completely solve the problem. In this way, you can leave space for yourself to think and experience.

1.2Don't give up too early

Everyone's dream of changing the world -- before the reality breaks their dreams. Whether you are a developer or a project manager, you will find that many things in the project cannot be changed. In many cases, you can only watch the project decline step by step, or even die. This feeling of powerless is not good. This is especially true for employees in foreign companies.

Most people will choose to adapt to this world. That's right. But remember, adapting to this world is because you don't have enough power to change it. The biggest sorrow is that when you finally have the power to change these, it has been lost by the assimilation of the world.

1.3Knowledge usage is better than quick Knowledge Acquisition

In this age of information explosion, information overload has become a common problem for most IT practitioners. Google Baidu brings great convenience and affects our habits. The convenience of the Internet allows us to look forward to Google's answer, which I call a quick answer. At the same time, when looking for answers to a question, I am often disturbed by irrelevant information. unconsciously, it takes a lot of time to wander online. I call it the loss of focus. Information has become a kind of fast-moving consumer goods. The age of blog, loose blog, meager, and light-reading has arrived. Like most IT practitioners, I have mild (or possibly severe) Internet addiction, mild quick answers, and focal loss. This helps us quickly obtain knowledge and information, but it is extremely unfavorable for us to master and use it.

To do a good job in this era, reverse thinking is necessary. It is necessary to take some time to master and use it. This allows you to be different from others. You can gain a better chance when others are at a low eye. The key is not how much you know, but what you can do.

2.1Change yourself and influence others

Changing yourself and influencing others is an important factor for project managers to succeed (I personally think it is the most important factor ). How can project managers understand their own and others' mental models to learn, think, and grow more effectively? How to build a team and how to make the team develop towards the goal? How can we establish our own influence and communicate effectively with customers and leaders? How does the Project Manager solve the problem and what solution mode can help the project manager?

Inner cannot be the same as poor communication. Inner software developers and project managers should not be poor at communication. Communication is the most important contact between people. How to communicate well?

As software practitioners, we already have enough books and materials on software development, processes, and methodologies. However, there is only a small amount of information about how to change yourself and influence others. We hope to discuss this with you in future blogs.
