OMGAndUnisysJoint development of the modeling capability test suite
Needham , Mass .-- (Business wire) -- Jan. 18,200 6-OMG (TM) announced today that it, together with its partner Unisys, has developed XML Metadata (XMI (R) used to verify UML and OMG )) validation program for standard compliance ).
Metadata Management is a cross-enterprise integration solution. This test is the first product to manage metadata using the OMG metadata facility (MOF (TM) technology. The test programs of UML/XMI can verify whether a particular modeling tool product supports interoperability.
This test suite was created by Unisys in close cooperation with the OMG Technical Committee, which is responsible for all OMG standards. Unisys has developed all certification tests in their current lab and will provide consulting services to help Tool developers prepare their products to pass this standard compliance test.
Developers of certified products can use the "OMG certification" identifier in product and market behavior. OMG will present the interoperability performance between these certified products on site at the OMG Technical Conference Week held in Boston on April 9, 2006.
"Customers want to be flexible when selecting modeling tools, and they want multiple products in their product chain to interact with each other," said Dr. Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of OMG, "Through this test, customers can rest assured that their technology investment will be protected by using products that meet this open standard, and will be protected both now and in the future."
"Enterprises want to develop their enterprise-level applications using modern modeling technologies based on OMG modeling standards and tools that implement these standards, "with the cooperation of OMG's standards experts and Unisys testing and consulting forces, we have developed this test suite for modeling interoperability, providing enterprises with powerful new information to help them make purchase decisions for modeling tools."
"Borland serves the interests of our main customers, and Borland's customers are reluctant to be tied to a tool. They seek movable project assets here, which in model-driven development means our MDA and UML suite, together2006 ." Karl Frank, Borland's chief architect, said.

After reading this news, the first response was: Does OMG get one vote and one vote of silver pull on the CMM?
I would like to see this certification. If the OMG stuff is not a bubble or can make the bubble come true, I also want to take an exam (or how to get a MOF verification Consultant :)
Actually, I think the first thing OMG wants to do now is to flat the large vendors such as Microsoft and IBM, honestly, let's first define the standards that have been dragged on for N years and then push them well. OMG should not be the one who will pick fruit when this field is ready, but it should be the hard work that drives it.
Spem, qvt ...... These standards have not been well developed over the past N years. It is no wonder that cool people such as osterweil have made some bad comments when talking about OMG.
