1. Functions of the NIS server.

The NIS server function is used to manage accounts and passwords for Servers. When other linux Hosts require users and passwords to log on, you must go to this host that specifically manages user passwords to find users' accounts and passwords.

Full name: Network Information Service should be called Sun Yellow Pages (yp) at the earliest ).

How NIS Server (master/slave) works:

The NIS Master first makes the account and password-related files into database files for fast transmission and read/write.

The NIS Master can proactively notify the NIS slave server to update the data;

NIS slave can also take the initiative to go to the NIS master server to obtain the updated database file;

If there is a change in the account password, you need to re-create the database and re-Synchronize the master/slave.

When the NIS Client requires any login query:

If the NIS client needs to log on, it will first query its local/etc/passwd,/etc/shadow and other files;

If you cannot find the relevant account information on the NIS Client machine, you can query the hosts of the entire NIS domain;

Each NIS server (regardless of the master/slave) can respond. Basically, the "First responder is preferred 』.

Ii. settings of the NIS server.

1. Check whether the following four rpm files are installed.

[Root @ linux etc] # rpm-qa | grep portmap

Portmap-4.0-65.2.2.1

2. Set the NIS domain name.

[Root @ linux ~] # Nisdomainname zwtnis

[Root @ linux ~] # Vi/etc/rc. d/rc. local

# Add the following line. The name of the NIS domain name is started upon startup.
