If you want to make lossless adjustments to disk partitions, it is often necessary to download the use of professional disk management tools to complete, such as the common tools are partitionmagic, PowerQuest and so on, so there is no professional disk management tools to help, Can't we make a lossless adjustment to the partition? The answer is NO! In the Windows Server 2008 system environment, we can take advantage of the system's own disk partition management capabilities, we can easily lossless disk partition adjustment!

Underline a new partition in an existing partition

Most of the time, when your computer just bought it back, it contained only one disk partition, which could be up to hundreds of gigabytes in space. In an older system environment, it is often difficult to draw some of the disk space out of a new disk partition, and it must be done with some professional tools, but we can easily do that in a Windows Server 2008 system environment. Now, step-by-step, this article describes how to create a new disk partition in a Windows Server 2008 system environment:

First enter the Windows Server 2008 system environment with system administrator privileges, click the start/Run command in the system desktop, and in the pop-up system run text box, enter the string command "Compmgmt.msc", and click Enter to enter Windows Server 2008 System Computer Management window;

Second, display the area on the left side of the management window, expand the Computer Management/storage/Disk Management branch options with the mouse (as shown in Figure 1), and in the right-hand display area of the Disk Management Branch option, we will see clearly the disk partition settings in the local system;

With the mouse, select the partition to which you want to divide the new partition, and then right-click the partition, execute the Compress volume command from the pop-up shortcut menu, and enter the compression settings dialog shown in Figure 2. From this dialog we can also see very intuitively the amount of disk space that can be split out and the total capacity of the original partition; In the input compressed space text box in the dialog box, enter the amount of disk space you want to split correctly, and in the click the Compress button in the corresponding dialog box, Windows The Server 2008 system automatically compresses and splits the original disk partitions;

When the compression split operation is complete, the partition's disk space capacity is automatically displayed after the original partition, along with the "free space" prompt on the partitioning option; Right-click the free space disk partition, and execute the new Simple volume command from the pop-up right-click menu. Open the Create Wizard dialog box shown in Figure 3, and in the simple volume size text box of the dialog box, enter the space size of the new partition, but the value entered must be between the maximum amount of disk space and the minimum amount of disk space;

Once you have set the space capacity for the new partition, click the Next button to enter the wizard Settings window shown in Figure 4, where we can select the Assign the following drive letter option and specify an unused disk partition symbol for the new partition. In general, we just use the default allocated disk partition symbol, and if you want to distribute the disk partition symbol for the new disk partition again later, we can also select the "Do not assign drive letter or drive path" option here;

Then continue to click the Next button, from the wizard Settings window that pops up as shown in Figure 5, select the format this setting as follows option, then set the file system format and volume label format, and then select the Perform Quick format option, and after confirming that the above information is set correctly, Then click the "Finish" button in the wizard Settings window so that the new partition that is partitioned in the existing partition will take effect.

Merge multiple partitions into one partition

Since you can easily split a partition into several partitions, is it easy to combine several disk partitions into one partition in a Windows Server 2008 system environment? According to the theory, it can be done easily; however, after the author's repeated practice, it is found that in Several disk partitions cannot be merged directly into one partition in a Windows Server 2008 system Environment, but we can indirectly merge multiple partitions into one partition as follows:

First, follow the same procedure, open the Windows Server 2008 System Computer Management window, in the left display area of the window, click the mouse to select the Computer Management/storage/Disk Management node options, in the corresponding "Disk Management" node options in the right display area, Select a partition that you want to keep, and then open the System's Explorer window and copy all the other disk partitions that need to be merged into the reserved partition;

Next, use the mouse to select several other disk partitions that need to be merged, and right-click them, select the Delete Volume option from the shortcut menu that pops up, and the dialog box shown in Figure 6 will appear, which will remind us to do a good job of data backup before merging the other partitions; click the Yes button, the Windows Server 2008 system automatically deletes those partitions that are in the checked state, and the space capacity of those partitions appears in the free space area at the same time;

Right-click the previously reserved disk partition. And execute the Extend Volume command in the right-click menu, and then click the Next button in the wizard Settings window to open the settings dialog shown in Figure 7, which is the maximum amount of free space text box in the dialog box. The size of the display is the capacity that can be expanded, we simply enter the capacity to expand in the "Select volume" text box, in general, just fill in the sum of the capacity of several partitions to be merged here, then click the Next button, and finally click the Finish button, That way, the space capacity of multiple partitions is merged into a single partition, so that we can indirectly implement the purpose of merging the partitions.

It is worth noting that all the partitions to be merged must be together, and each partition should be formatted in NTFS format, otherwise we will not be able to successfully perform the lossless adjustment of the disk partition!

Small Tips

In a Windows Server 2008 system environment, when we manage individual partitions, we often find that in the Disk Management window in the system environment, even if you are able to perform a format operation on the newly created disk partition, or recreate the system primary partition operation, However, in this system environment we cannot create the extended partition of the disk, if the local computer installed two or more than two operating systems is fine, if only a Windows Server 2008 system installed, then we create a disk expansion partition of the operation is a little trouble, But we can skillfully use the DOS command to create a new logical partition for the disk:

First enter the Windows Server 2008 system with System administrator privileges, click Start, run on the system desktop in turn, and in the pop-up system run text box, enter the string command "cmd", and then click OK to open the system's MS-DOS window. Enter the string command "DiskPart" in the command line State of the window, and the system state will be automatically switched to the DiskPart command line mode when the enter key is clicked;

Second, in DiskPart command line mode, enter the "Select disk X" string command, where "X" refers to the physical disk ordinal number on the local computer, for example, if we want to create a new extended partition for the second physical disk, enter the "Select disk 1" string command, The number of the first physical disk should be "0";

Then enter the "create partition Extended" String command, and when you click Enter, the system automatically creates an extended partition on the destination physical disk, and all free disk space after the primary partition is automatically consumed, and when the creation is complete, We do not need to continue using the relevant string command to create Logical disk partitions, after all, the Windows Server 2008 system allows us to create only one system logical partition by default, and it is clear that such features often fail to meet the needs of some advanced users. In fact, when we create a logical partition of the system, open the system's Disk Management window again, right-click the destination logical partition, and from the shortcut menu that pops up, we can also see the "New Simple Volume" command, which allows us to randomly divide new logical partitions.
