Precautions for installing Ubuntu 5101 on a hard disk in HP 9.04 small XP:

Before installation, you must enter the cmos option to disable CPU dual-core! The installation fails several times because it is not disabled.

I. Installation preparation:

The key to hard disk installation is to start from the iso file.

Download the Ubuntu iso file from the Internet and put it in the root directory of a disk. the disk can be ntfs or fat32. Of course, it can also be a linux File System. just do not place this file on the partition where you want to install the system.

Use winrar to extract the vmlinuzand initrd.gz files from the isofiles to the root directory of the same disk.

Create a text file in the root directory of the disk and rename it as menu. lst.

Write the following command into this file:

Title Install Ubuntu
Find -- set-root/Ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso
Kernel/vmlinuz boot = casper iso-scan/filename =/ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso locale = zh_CN.UTF-8
Initrd/initrd.gz

Note: The second line is find -- set-root/

The Ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso in this command is the name of the iso file you downloaded, the image you downloaded may not be the name, so change it to your own file name.

In addition to the menu. lst file we created, if files with such names exist in the root directory of other disks, they must be all deleted or renamed.

Download the latest grub4dos from here, extract a file named grldr (as long as this one is enough), and put it in the root directory of the XP system disk. Modify boot. ini and add the following statement at the end:

C: \ grldr = "ubuntu"

It should be noted that here I assume that your XP is installed on the C drive. If it is attached to another disk, change the drive C here to another drive letter.

PS: vista and win7 can also use boot. ini, but there is a note in writing.

In XP, the line we add can be written as: c: \ grldr = ubuntu

In vista, the line we add must be written as c: \ grldr = "ubuntu"

Restart the computer and select Ubuntu to start. Start installation, which is not described below, as in Tutorial: http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2009-04/19649.htm
