Hello everyone, I am very happy to share my experiences with you here. Please give me more advice. Looking forward to RHEL5 for a long time, I am very excited. I heard that the RHCE for RedHat8 and 9 will be declared invalid after RHEL5 is released. It can be seen how many changes RHEL5 has made. Let's get down to the truth. Let's talk about installation. In fact, this is already a commonplace. What I am talking about here is definitely not a new technology. On the contrary, such articles are searched on the Internet. Why should I write it? This article is mainly intended for RHEL5 and redhat9 and AS3 installation. We are very happy to share our experiences with you here. Please give me more advice. Let's get down to the truth. Let's talk about installation. In fact, this is already a commonplace. What I am talking about here is definitely not a new technology. On the contrary, such articles are searched on the Internet. Why should I write it? It is mainly for the differences between RHEL5 and redhat9 and AS3 Installation. In addition, there is no Chinese version of the RHEL5 Documentation Manual. It may be difficult to read the Installation Guide, so. (If you are anxious to check the installation part, skip the following steps to check the installation part .)

Common installation methods:
1. CD installation (the simplest and most intuitive, but not suitable for large-scale installation)

2. Hard Disk installation (fast, and there is no need to wait for disk replacement. If it is a CD installation, it is indeed a long wait ).

3. network installation (NFS, FTP, HTTP)

It is relatively simple to install the disc. You can set the BIOS to boot the disc and mount disk1 to the optical drive. The subsequent steps are as long as you understand the Chinese language, however, when selecting a disk partition, pay attention to the option. Do not delete the partitions you do not want to delete. If you have spare space on the disk, you can choose to use the remaining space on the disk.

Network installation is an advanced installation, which can be completed in a few words. You should consider building servers, PXE, kickstart, and host hardware configuration... so here I mainly talk about hard disk installation.

My current environment: windows 2003, IDE hard drive 80 GB, not allocated is 27 GB. Download a grub-for-dos tool from the Internet first. You 'd better have a boot disk that can be used to start the dos tool, which is the complete RHEL5 iso image file. Remember to use md5sum to verify the integrity.

Installation ideas:
1. Extract the two files in the/isolinux directory under the first image of RHEL5. Vmlinuz and initrd. img.
(The isolinux directory contains the files required to start from CD ;)
(Vmlinux is an executable file that contains the static and Linux kernel executable file formats)
(The initrd. imginitrd image contains the necessary executable programs and system files required to support the two-phase Linux boot process)

2. Place the image file and the above two files in any windows2003 partition. Remember, they can only be in the fat/fat32 format. Otherwise, the image cannot be found when you select the partition where the image file is located during hard disk installation. For example, the NTFS format cannot be supported.

3.use your dos tool to start the computer, find your downloaded grub-for-dos, and run grub.exe.

4. boot the linux image in the hard disk in grub:
A. Run find vmlinuz (search for the partition where vmlinuz is located ).

B. Run root (hdx. y) (this is the partition where/boot is located. The information in the brackets is the echo of the above command .)

C. kernel vmlinuz (used to specify the Linux kernel)

D. initrd/initrd. img (used to specify the initrd file)

E. boot

5. The subsequent installation is the same as the graphic interface.
Again, your windows partition must be in the fat/fat32 format. NTFS does not work. If you do not have the fat32 format and only the NTFS format, I cannot do it, because it seems that the risk of converting the NTFS format to the fat32 is relatively high, the best way is to split your free space into 3 GB as fat32, and copy the image and the two files to that partition.
