In my opinion, the development of HDD has slowed down in the past few years. Although the HDD technology is relatively advanced in server hard disks, some storage technologies and storage density of 2.5-inch disks are more advanced than those of desktop hard disks. However, after the appearance of SSD, all this changes.
We know that HDD (hard disk drive) is a Winchester disk, by rotating a magnetic aluminum disk, use a mobile arm controlled by a high-performance magnet with a head to move back and forth on the disk to read and write data. This feature of HDD was introduced by the results of the early 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch disks and is also affected by the tape storage method. After decades of development, HDD has doubled its capacity many times, but it also restricts its development on the capacity issue. We can see that the development of HDD uses the giant reluctance head, vertical disk technology, ncq technology and other technological innovations, which indeed laid the foundation for the development of HDD and made a lot of contributions. At present, the maximum capacity of HDD is only 6 TB, and it is only a server hard disk, and the desktop type is only a 4 TB capacity limit. What restricts the development of HDD is the storage density of disks.
Along with the development of HDD, the emergence of SSD (solid state drive) hard disks, which are read and written to various LC chips through the master control chip and then using multi-channel methods. Because of the use of multi-channel technology, SSD reading and writing speed is faster. For SSD, there are several restrictions on reading and writing speed, capacity, Master Control, and chip life. Today, SSD has gained popularity thanks to its speed and features. It can be said that these years have seen the rapid development of SSD.
Hard drives have grown to today, and in my opinion, they are the slowest growing part of computer hardware. However, with the development of SSD, this situation is estimated to change. What SSD needs to improve now is the speed and service life. Other problems that hinder its development are not found yet. With the development of SSD over the years, I personally estimate that in the next three to five years, SSD will replace HDD and establish its position in computer storage technology.
