One of Windows 7 virtualization Raiders: System deployment

Along with the release of the Windows7 RC version, Microsoft's virtualization product line has a new member-xp MODE. MP mode is a new and exciting component of Windows 7, and XP mode is designed to solve windows 7 compatibility issues with applications. Vista's promotion is not satisfactory, there is an important reason for the poor compatibility of old applications, many organizations do not want to upgrade the operating system to Vista and pay the cost of redeploying the application. Windows 7 absorbs this lesson and addresses application compatibility issues in the RC release.

XP mode is actually an XP SP3 virtual machine that allows users to load a xpmode virtual machine with a Windows Virtual PC, and then run some old applications in a virtual machine. Windows Virtual PC is similar to the familiar Microsoft Virtual PC, but the Windows Virtual PC has a significant functional improvement over Microsoft Virtual PCs. For example, USB devices can be supported in virtual machines, allowing applications installed in virtual machines to run seamlessly on Windows 7. Can support printer redirection, and so on. The difference between Windows Virtual PC and Microsoft Virtual PC can be referred to in Figure 1.

The Windows Virtual PC not only functions beyond the Microsoft Virtual PC, but also requires hardware that is far more demanding than Microsoft Virtual PCs. Windows Virtual PC requires the CPU to support AMD-V or INTER-VT technology, and the motherboard will also turn on the virtualization switch in the BIOS. From this point of view, Windows Virtual PC is much like Hyper-V in Server virtualization, and the Windows Virutal PC allows the physical machine to run applications in virtual machines from the usage features of Windows Virtual PCs. This is also very much like the med-v in Application Virtualization.

Having read the above introduction, have you been interested in XP mode? Believing, next we will introduce XP mode deployment, configuration, management through a series of actual combat. Our test hardware platform is a Dell XPS 1210,intel Core Dual t5600,2g memory, 160G hard drive.

The first step in the XP Mode combat series is to deploy Windows 7, and we are ready to deploy the Windows 7 flagship on the physical machine, with the latest RC version, of course. Put the Windows 7 installation CD in the CD drive and boot the system from the installation CD. As shown in Figure 2, we first select the installation language, time and currency format, keyboard and input methods, and then click "Next" to continue.

As shown in Figure 3, click the "Install Now" button to begin installing Windows 7.
