One of the solutions for HMC failure to open terminal windows

Source: Internet
Author: User

The new HMC 7310-cr4 is somewhat different from the original 7310-c03. The main reason is that xserver 3550 is displayed directly, and there is only one SATA hard disk locally.

The machine is preinstalled with 6.1.3, and the interface is much worse than V7. Therefore, 7.3.4 is downloaded directly. Then reinstall. Everything went smoothly.

The terminal window cannot be opened before the reinstallation. When you select Open terminal windows, the following information is displayed:

Open in progress
Several garbled characters
Open completed.

Because HMC arrived late, we connected the display card to install the system. After finding the problem, I found some solutions on the Internet:

First, press Ctrl + C and enter for a few times, and the result remains the same.

Second, use Smitty to change the console to vty0 (LOGIN enable has been set.

Third: Delete the default profile and create a new one.

Type 4: Create a New partition, allocate all resources (we use full partitions), restart the computer, and finally see the startup information. Unfortunately, after the startup is complete, the logon prompt cannot be displayed.

Finally, I found a solution on the IBM website. This method should also be suitable for systems installed using serial ports.

The original Article is as follows, hoping to be useful to everyone. When prompted to select the console, the value here is 0, which may vary depending on the actual situation.

AIX Console (HMC vterm) not working with new system p Server

Te (troubleshooting)

Problem (Abstract)
System P is newly attached to a Hardware Management Console (HMC) and
The server property for manufactoring default configuration (MDC) is
False. The vterm console works in hardware mode (I. e. SMS and
Displaying hardware parameters when lpar is activating). However,
Vterm does not display login prompt after AIX has been booted.

Symptom

Cause
AIX was installed on system p server when it was attached to an async console prior to attaching system to HMC.

Resolving the problem
To reconfigure the AIX's console device to use the new hardware connection you will need to do the following:
Either telnet (or SSH) into the server if networking had been
Configured or boot into a maintenance shell and run following procedure.

The procedure will completely remove vty0, vsa0 (and any other vty or
VSA device) and syscons objects from the ODM and allow them to be
Recreated by AIX when system reboots.

Once telneted in or in a maintenance shell, as root execute the following:

# Odmdelete-Q name = vty0-O cudv

# Odmdelete-Q name = vty0-O cudv

# Odmdelete-Q name = vsa0-O cudv

# Odmdelete-Q name = vsa1-O cudv

# Odmdelete-Q attribute = syscons-O cuat

# Bosboot-AD/dev/ipldevice <---- customer hung trying to run this
Command

# Sync

# Reboot

When system comes up it shoshould reconfigure vsa0 and vty0
And since we removed "syscons" from ODM it shoshould prompt
You to select a terminal. This time, the only device
Connected for a console shocould be the HMC's vterm.

You shoshould messages similar to following when lpar is booting back up:
-------------------------------------------------------
* ****** Please define the system console .*********

Type A 1 and press enter to use this terminal as
System Console.

1

-------------------------------------------------------

At this point you shoshould see AIX console output being displayed in
The HMC vterm.
