A Word document that is opened as read-only restricts the editing and modification of the original Word document, effectively protecting the original state of the Word document. Of course, a Word document opened in read-only mode allows the user to save as to save the currently open read-only Word document as a new, editable Word document. To open a Word document in read-only mode in Word 2010, the following steps are described:
Step 1th, open the Word 2010 window, and click the file → open button, as shown in Figure 2009120511.

Step 2nd, in the Open dialog box, select the Word document you want to open, and then click the Drop-down triangle button to the right of the Open button. Select the open as read-only option in the Open menu, as shown in Figure 2009120512.

In the Open Word 2010 document window title bar, the user sees that the current Word document is in read-only mode, as shown in Figure 2009120513.
