1. Operations Manager usage

Operations Manager is a component of Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 and a software that helps administrators monitor services, devices, and operations on many computers from a single console.

Large and small enterprises usually rely on the services and applications provided by their computing environments. The IT department is responsible for ensuring the performance and availability of these key services and applications. This means that the IT department needs to know when there is a problem, locate the problem, and determine the cause of the problem, preferably before the application users encounter the problem. The more computers and devices the enterprise has, the more complicated the task is.

If operations manager is used in the environment, you can monitor multiple computers, devices, services, and applications more easily. The operation console allows administrators to check the running status, performance, and availability of all monitored objects in the environment, and helps administrators identify and solve problems.

Operations Manager will tell administrators which monitored objects are abnormal, send an alarm when a problem is found, and provide information to help you identify the cause of the problem and possible solutions.

2. Operations Manager infrastructure

Operations Manager mainly includes:

1)Management Server:The Management Server is the focus of managing the management group and communicating with the database. When you open the operation console and connect to the Management Group, you will be connected to the management server of the Management Group. A Management Group can contain multiple management servers to provide other functions and continuous availability. After two or more management servers are added to the Management Group, the Management Server becomes part of the resource pool and shares the work among the pool members. If a member in the resource pool fails, other members in the resource pool obtain the workload of the member. After a new management server is added, the new management server automatically obtains some work from existing members in the resource pool. All members in the resource pool will manage different sets of remote objects. At any given time, two members in the same pool will not manage the same object at the same time.

2)Database:Operations Manager databases include operational databases and data warehouse databases.Database OperationsIs an SQL Server database that contains all configuration data of the Management Group and stores all monitoring data collected and processed by the Management Group. The operation database retains short-term data, which is retained for 7 days by default.Data Warehouse databaseIs an SQL Server database that stores monitoring and alarm data for Historical queries. Data written to the Operations Manager database is also written to the Data Warehouse database, so that the report always contains the current data. The data warehouse database retains long-term data.

If you use the SQL Report Service Management Group, a report database is created. This service uses the data in the data warehouse to create and provide reports.

3)Proxy:Operations Manager "proxy" is a service installed on a computer. The proxy collects data, compares the sample data with the predefined values, creates alarms, and runs responses. The management server receives the configuration and distributes the configuration to the agent on the monitored computer. All agents must report to one management server in the Management Group. This management server is called the Master management server of the proxy. The agent observes the data sources on the monitored computer and collects information based on the configuration sent by the management server. The agent also calculates the running status of the monitored computers and objects on the monitored computers and reports them to the management server. The agent generates an alert when the Monitored object's health condition changes or other conditions are met. In this way, the operator can know something to pay attention. By providing health data about the Monitored object to the management server, the agent provides the latest health status of the device and all applications it hosts. You can configure a proxy as a proxy. A proxy is a proxy that forwards data to a management server on behalf of a computer or network device (rather than its host. For example, you can enable a proxy installed on the SQL cluster physical node to monitor cluster resources as a proxy. The agent can monitor the computers and devices where the agent cannot be installed.

4)Management package:SThe workflows run by the ystem center management service are defined by the management package. The management package defines the information that the agent collects and returns to the Management Server of a specific application or technology. For example, the BizTalk Server management package contains rules and monitors that collect and evaluate events and operations that are important to ensure the running status and efficiency of BizTalk Server applications. After Operations Manager installs a proxy on the computer, it sends the initial configuration to the proxy. The initial configuration includes Object discovery in the management package. Management packages define object types, such as applications and functions, which are monitored on computers discovered by operations manager. The agent sends data to the management server, which identifies the instance of the object found on the computer. The management server then sends a management package element, such as rules and monitors, to the proxy for the Discovery objects on each computer. Defines the event and performance data collected from the computer, and how to process the collected information. One simple way to consider rules is the IF/then statement.

5)Management Console/WebConsole:The Management Console allows you to monitor the running status of an Enterprise Based on the management package. administrators can access, manage, monitor, and implement reporting services through the Management Console. Simplifies tasks.

6)Gateway Server:For computers outside the Management Server that does not use the gateway server to monitor the trust boundary, you need to install and manually maintain the Management Server and certificates on the computer to monitor.

7)Report Server:Scom provides many reports for administrators to view the monitoring client status. The report is not installed with scom. You must manually install the report before using it.
