Optimized: 32 MB memory is required for running Windows 2000

Recently, a foreign website has posted a short optimization guide to teach you how to install and run Windows 2000 on a 32 MB system, which is useful for many users who still use the semi-"Antique" system.

Before optimization: it takes 30 seconds for Windows 2000 to start up, and 3-4 MB of memory is left for the software to run. The system's response speed makes people want to commit suicide.

After optimization: Windows 2000 only takes 10 seconds to start, with more than 10 MB of memory running programs left. The system responds quite quickly.

Install the simplest Windows 2000 operating system

Note:

1. Do not install any Service Pack (in mainstream systems, SP can improve computer performance and stability, but it will only drag down the system ). Make sure that your Windows 2000 installation CD has not been pre-integrated with any Service Pack.

2. Do not install any multi-language support

3. Do not upgrade from any Windows System

4. Use the FAT method when formatting the system. Do not select NTFS.

Steps:

A. Remove the mouse shadow.

B. Cancel all display effects, including color icons.

You can use a 16-bit color desktop to remove the "fancy" features such as the Support for High-color icons, fade-in and fade-out effects, and display window information in the drag-and-drop mode.

C. Remove the sound subject and sound card

You can also cancel the following services as needed:

* Infrared Monitor

* Removable Storage (for USB drives, attachable CD drives etc .)

Install and use X-Setup (cancel most Window hiding Services)

Services to be canceled include:

* Disabke activedesktop

* Use "Classic" Explorer style

* Disallow file and printer sharing

* Shutdown can auto-end programs

* Service timout when system shutdown decreasde to 10sec

* Disable group policy objects (GPO)

* Disable dr. watson just-in-time debugging

* Disable "last access" attribute of files (this is important for drive/processor speed)

* Disable "secure desktop" patch

* Disable windows file protection (t, which is very important for improving the Running Speed)

Remove LPT/printer ports and cancel printer and file sharing

Install and use the Tweak UI

Tweak UI is a very old but useful Microsoft tool. After installation, make the following settings:

* Remove all UI effects of windows

* Remove active desktop

* Remove "new documents added to documents on startmenu"

* Renmove "beep on error"

* Reomove most of the icons from the "new" tab

Good at using the sleep function:

The sleep function allows you to start your computer very quickly. It takes about 40 seconds to start a standard boot, but 10 to 15 seconds to start from sleep.

1. Do not install too much Software

2. Run only one program at a time and open a window.

3. Do not open files larger than 1 MB (images, documents, etc)

4. Do not install any System Patches

5. Don't envy the fancy desktop system. Remember, your 32 MB system is far from beautiful.

Finally, you can run Office2000 in your Windows 2000 system as a companion. Note that do not perform proper installation steps.
