Ora core 3 installation note (1)

A few days ago, I was glad to hear that the official version of Fedora Core 3 has come out. As a beginner in Linux, core3 is expected to provide us with better functions and ease of use, so we can't wait to find a place to download, I started a long installation journey (it took almost a whole day, which is equivalent to nothing, only this note ......). Now I will share with you all the problems encountered during this period, hoping to help beginners like me.

1. disc4 and MD5

Because Fedora Core 2 was installed, there were some messy software, and the disk space allocated to it was not enough, I wanted to overwrite the original installation, so I chose to download the ISO, install from Dos. Considering that 4th CDs are commonly used as documents or infrequently used packages, it seems that they are rarely used during installation, so they are too lazy to download. Boot to DoS and use loadlin to guide Linux and start the installation process. As a result, we were told that 4th disc4 discs were missing in a few steps at the beginning, so we couldn't download them back to Windows. Then re-install: format, configure, and select the installation package. It seems that everything went well.

The installation process is not long enough. It takes only a few minutes to complete.ProgramA sudden GCC package error is prompted, which may be a source file error or insufficient space. The result can only be forced to press the unique "OK" button, and the "Results" of more than half an hour will flow eastward. I suspect that there is not enough space. I did just divide it into 5g partitions, and I chose to install something close to 4G, which makes sense that there is not enough space. Use pqmagic to re-adjust the 1g space and take the opportunity to do other things.

This error is returned when you try again! Finally, I realized that there was a problem with the source file. I think I can check the MD5 code of the ISO file. I have no tools at hand. I ran it using the md5_file () function of PHP. 3rd and 4th CDs are really different from what I provided! I suspect that the download was wrong. Because it was downloaded from a personal machine provided by a netizen on BBS, I went to BBS and checked it again. Some people asked the same question. Later, the netizen confirmed that the file was indeed a little biased, but the installation was good online ...... Sometimes it seems that it is far more cost-effective to take some time to do some verification than to come back after an error.

2. Grub vs dual Disks

It's hard to install the system. The advantage of Linux is to add some packages to the kernel, so you don't have to restart anything. No, you just need to restart it once. Why? No, grub stops at the "Grub>" prompt, instead of selecting the operating system. I had to follow the usual root (hd1, 1), setup (hd1, 1), because I use dual hard disk, I put the boot zone of fedora in the Second Primary partition of the second hard disk, now we use the second hard disk to boot.

Wait, no. why can't the corresponding file be found on hd1? Let's calm down and analyze it. In the past, the representation of grub hard disks and partitions is different from that of Linux, not only is the partition on the same hard disk counted from 0, hdx (hda, HDB, etc.) is not used to represent the hard disk location, while HDN (hd0, hd1, etc.) is used to represent the N hard disks. Here, n is chaotic. It is not arranged according to the hard disk ide connection sequence in Linux, but the boot hard disk is recorded as hd0, and the rest is recursive from ide0.

In this way, the problem is quite clear. I installed fedora with two hard disks, so it thought that Linux was installed (hd1 ,). Use a Linux boot disk in rescue mode, change/boot/GRUB/grub. conf, and restart. Everything is normal. (BTW: Fedora Core 3 seems to add a hiddenmenu item on its own. Instead of directly selecting the menu in the operating system, a screen is displayed, prompting you to press any key to enter the menu, otherwise, the system enters the default Operating System in 5 seconds)
