To put the Oracle 8i installation disk (or a burning disc with Oracle 8i) into the optical drive or via a USB connection with an Oracle 8i removable hard drive, open Windows Explorer and select the Oracle817fornt directory. Perform the installation file Setup.exe in this directory, as shown in the following illustration:
Double-click the setup file to display the Welcome window for the installation system, as shown in the following illustration:

SOURCE ... "path": This column is the complete path for installing the Product component description file Product.jar storage. The default path is already filled in the text box, and if you need to change, you can use the Browse button to find and select the path to the program.
Target ... "name": In this column, enter the name of the Oracle home directory that will be established, default to OraHome81. If the home directory does not exist, the installer first creates the home directory.
Target ... "path": Enter the full path of the home directory in this column, or select it through the browse button.
It is recommended that you use the default mode, D:\ORACLE\ORA81, because Oracle automatically selects the largest logical disk in the remaining space of the hard disk, the logical disk is best not less than 4G, as large as possible.
Then, click Next to see a progress bar display window that is loading the product list, as shown in the following illustration:
Wait a two minute, after the mount is complete, display the available products window as shown in the following figure. There are 3 radio buttons that choose to install the product to select the product to install.

"Oracle8i Enterprise Edition8.1.7.0.0": If your computer installed operating system is NT series (Windows nt/2000/xp/2003) operating system, the default choice, that is, select the first;

Customize: You can select a single component to install as needed. Some additional components are available only when you select the custom installation type.

Wait a minute, when the load is complete, that is, when the progress bar in the upper right corner is 100%, the Database Identification window shown in the following figure appears, requiring the global database name and the oracle8i system identifier SID to be entered.

SID: Distinguishes oracle8i routines by oracle8i system identifiers, and a database is referenced by at least one oracle8i routine.

Global Settings-Source: The location where components are centrally stored for installation. To change the source, you must go back to the File positioning window.

Space requirements: Indicates the amount of disk space required to install the product. If the free disk space is less than the space required, space requirements is displayed in a different color.
"New Installation Component": A product to be installed on the machine for the first time.
Click the Install button and the Setup window appears as shown in the following illustration.

Installed Products: You can view the products that have been installed.
"Next Install": You can click this button if you need to install additional products.
Here, click the "Exit" button, pop-up "Exit" dialog box below, select "Yes" to complete this installation.
